theres a pretty big mental aspect to. you have to know where the ball needs to go before it gets to you. the difference in a play can be fractions of a second

it was a general example but if you're going to make it personal...

I did play football and we won states 2 years in a row. I also started on varsity all 4 years for lax and played hockey too. I'd say any of those sports are a lot tougher than baseball.

I could have played football or lacrosse in college but decided to focus on my engineering degree.

lol even though at my age we dont throw 80 yet people jump out of the way of the ball and i lol when that happens. i dont even move unless its coming straight at my head and then a just move my head out of the way. a guy almost broke my knee and i could barely walk for a few minutes but i walked it of and kept playing :D does that mean im a pussy?

i'm a catcher, and my friend's brother plays minor league ball and throws 92. He showed up for one of our practices and needed a catcher to catch his bullpen. I thought i broke 3 fingers, thats how scary that shit was. That shit isn't easy to catch either. His changeup was filthy. And blocking balls is a whole different story

Physically baseball isnt that hard.  wearing a 90+mph pitch hurts and for sure leaves a mark, but it is very localized.  I was much sorer saturday mornings during the fall (played QB).  HOWEVER baseball is THE TOUGHEST MENTAL sport to play.  you stand up at the plate with a dude you know doesn't like you intentionally throwing as hard as he can a foot away from you, all the while hanging in there when the ball starts at your face just to make sure its not gonna break.  On top of that good players fail 7 times out 10.  dealing with slumps is extremely hard to do, plus knowing situations in the field is difficult.  golf is tough cause you can think yourself into a hole, but baseball is the same way except you have to worry about so much more.


spark notes:  many sports are tougher physically than baseball but none are tougher mentally. 

actually on second thought catcher is really physically hard with the 90+mph balls hitting you all the time where theres no padding, and getting blown up at home on plays at the plate

yeah im a catcher. i learned how to set up for outside pitches properly the hard way. i used to just move my glove over but learned to move my entire body when a foul ball hit me in the ribs. blocking balls is a bitch. i blocked the ball properly but it took a weird hop after hitting my thigh and bounced away mother fucking charley horse from hell and got chewed out by my coach >:(

Right well, some guy hitting a ball with a stick while having a dozen guys trying to catch if he even hits it doesn't seem fun for me. Baseball is boring as shit, it may be Americas past time but soccer is the worlds. If you honestly believe that soccer is a pussy sport and baseball not, at least soccer athletes don't need to juice on roids to play their game.

Lax is by far the easiest baseball is all about where you need to be at the exact right time to make the play. Football is harder if your a quarterback but other then that its just about you watching one guy you need to cover or if your on offense just remembering what you need to do. Baseball isnt about remembering where you need to be its reacting on split second.

Try to hit a ground ball to the right side with less than two outs and a runner on second.  Doesn't make a huge difference if you get out or not (you'd rather not but if you do its not a huge deal), it just has to go to the right side.

Baseball is extremely difficult because people don't understand it.  There are tons of opportunities like the one above where the job you're called  to do is pretty difficult (on both sides of the ball).  Mix in the fact that the pitcher knows you're trying to go to the right side, different pitch counts, different pitches etc. and you've got quite the problem on your hands.

good example. in a hit and run you cant hit it in the air unless its a base hit ad you have to get it to a certain spot to succeed.

I play catcher and my team got 3rd in Colorado 5a high school last year for cred/end claim (and were taking state this year, claiming it now colorado kids). I've broken 4 different bones catching, all from different things. And taking an 82mph ball off the plate into your throat a few times doesn't feel too good. Also I've only had one bad collision at the plate in about 6 years now (I wish we could have more, they're fun), and that definitely didn't feel too good either. I've seen kids break elbows, legs, arms, get cleated in the face, get hands stepped on with metal spkies, get hit with bats, and all that good stuff

In conclusion, baseball is not a pussy sport. Its not a football type sport where you go super hard for 60min and you can hardly move after. But try playing 60 games in 2 months during the summer when its 90+ everyday, that's pretty tough too, but its all relative. but don't get me started on the mental part of baseball.

there's no such thing as a pussy sport imo. they are all hard in their own way and take different types of people to play them.

Oh i forgot to add i was pitching in practice and my friend hit a liner back at me and hit my kidney. I had to go to the hospital because my kidney was bleeding and i was peeing blood.

ummm...you play ball in fucking vermont hahaha...don't be claiming that shit unless your playing D1 ball on a legit team, or tell me about your top ten in the nation traveling team.  point is, you haven't played any more ball or played at a higher level than most kids who are any good and play varsity...so theres no need to qualify your opinion other than to say that you play/ed at a high level

I pitched in college (topped out at 93 mph.../claim) and for anybody who has never played baseball they will never understand what a toll throwing a baseball has on the body.

The night/day after I pitched, I could not move my arm above shoulder level (spent those days running mile after mile at practice). Finally you feel like you can pick up a baseball by the next time you are scheduled to pitch (4-5 days later).

I agree that baseball can be hard to watch (mainly on TV), but that is because those people don't understand the intricacies of the game.

Also, I once hit a kid in the head, shattered his helmet, watched him try to get up and collapse.../claim. (had to throw that one in there)

the intricacy of the game is incredible, the grind is unlike any other, the absolute density of shit meant to prevent you from succeeding is mind boggling.

I can watch that shit on TV, in person, with NO trouble. It is intoxicating.

The tennis comment lost your credibility. Let's see you play five sets and survive. It's a tough sport. If we are comparing all sports on a pro level, then let's see you return the 130mph first serve, then proceed to run around the court while thinking about where the opponents next shot will go and where your next shot needs to go. Tennis is easily just as hard as baseball. More stamina is required, great hand-eye coordination is needed, and you better be damn fast. I love baseball and tennis, it's just that tennis is always attacked by people who would get their ass torn up if they played.

I was actually just gonna mention something along those lines. There was a kid out of boise that topped at like 94 in highschool, average pitch location and loopy ass curveball and he went straight to oregon state after declining major league offers

I knew someone would try to call me out on that. I would expect somebody who does not know much about baseball, especially college baseball, to not know how the recruiting process works.

I came out of high school topping out at 90mph. Got offers from a number of Juco schools and asked to walk on at a D1 program. I decided to go to a D3 school for a good education.

I saw a number of pitchers at the D3 level throwing in the 90's. Just about every All-American pitcher at the D3 level can throw in the 90's. I faced a left handed pitcher in the regional tourny that topped out at 96 and had a hammer of a curveball.

Unlike most, I dont feel the need to get on a website and lie about my life.

Baseball is one of the most difficult sports, and hitting a baseball at the professional, major league level is THE hardest thing to do in sports.
