Best Italian Alp Skiing

Every winter my family and my really good friends family go on ski vacations together. Two years ago it was Alta/Bird. Last year it was Jackson Hole. This year we want to go ski in the Italian Alps because my family has friends that live and ski in Italy. I searchbarred and havent really found anything... So if u could tell me where the best Italian Alps resorts with good backcountry are that would be greatly appreciated.

Definately go for the Dolomites. If you plan to spend most of the time on piste, buy the Dolomiti Superski pass. It gives access to 450km of slopes around the Dolomites in 12 different destinations.

I find Canazei (region: Val di Fassa) to be a nice basecamp. Go there every other winter. It is right in the middle of the Dolomites and has some crazy nightlife going on.

BC is great, but you should stick with the locals if possible. The mountains are steep as f--- and the rescue squads are probably the most busy ones in the whole alps.

Oh yeah - something general: since most Italian resorts are on the sunny side, try to avoid December and the first half of January, as there won't be that much snow. Heaviest snowfalls arrive at the end of February & in March. Also, the season from Christmas to the 15th of January is extremely crowded, especially for people from the US who are used to empty slopes. The first two weeks of January is packed with Russians. So unless you're in for lots of Vodka, stay away from the alps in general during this period. :D

there are many good resorts... u can try madonna, val gardena or bormio... what i know, best park is in livingno

Go there. its in France but it boarders the Italian Alps and you can ski in Italy and France in the same day. One of the most amazing places i have ever been!

The Dolomites are definitely where its at. I spent a semester abroad in Italy and made a trip up to Cortina d'Ampezzo. Such a huge variety of amazing terrain and so many resorts within a short drive of the town or several trams straight out of the town. such a sick place. good luck man.

I also made several day trips to a decent resort called Abetone about 2 hours outside of Florence, nowhere near as sick as the Dolomites though.

We were planning on charmonix but my my mom my sister are not very experienced skiers and they think charmonix is way too dangerous but I would of loved to go there anyways
