In search of a dog

I right now currently am in search for a dog , and i need a little help on betting more infro on breeds and help with choosing a dog . here are the categories of dogs that i want .

- Medium to large sized . no bigger than a pitbull .
- tough dog . a dog that is not weak , and can handle being roughed around .
- looks tough . i want a dog that when people see it , they will be scared of it .
- Active . i want a dog that is pretty active around the house , and likes to have fun but at the same time will be calm , collective , and will lay down with you and likes to be pet .
- can take cold weather . winters get pretty cold in CT so walking the dog in the morning woulnt be a problem .

also , if you have a dog , post a picture of it for fun so we can see how it looks and describe the dog a little .

yayy . went to check out a siberian husky . fell in love with her at first . got to play with her and it was a ton of fun . price was around 1100 and she was 2 months and 3 weeks old . we might be buying her soon !

get a boxer, if you work hard to train them, they are awesome, we have one at the bike shop I work out and he is the shit, loves kids, is friendly to everyone and can outrun any bike

Someone already posted a picture of an australian shepherd, so i won't bother failing at posting one as well.

My friend has one, easily the coolest dog i've ever played with. Smart as fuck, and really obedient. If you train them right they're amazing.

I'm going to say German Shepard by your list of wants. I have a black lab, love her to death. In my opinion, labs are the way to go. They are loyal, can be bigger (my girl is 70 lb's, straight muscle), are way too much fun, they love you so much, and OBVIOUSLY labs are chick magnets.

Greater Swiss Mountain Dog. They are big dogs, and tend to be protective. I saw some at a dog show, and they were beautiful and big (125lb) dogs, and they have a really loud but deep bark.

LOL looks more like a Victorian/ Oriental footstool than a dog.

And if you want the biggest dog ever, get a liamburger. I saw one of these guys at the same dogshow I saw the greater swiss's at. Biggest dog I have ever seen, like 2 times the mass of a great dane haha. It's head was like the size of a backpack haha.

i made a phonecall today to a local breeder . they have purebred siberian huskies.  The litter is expected in mid october . i will get one of the pups 7 weeks after its born . 700 for a white or red and white . and 900 for a black and white or gray and white . recommendations in color ? i believe that the red and white are BEAUTIFUL .

attention he will be given . will be trained . will be socialized . exercise will be a daily walk and on other days a run through a bike trails . aimeeeeee - i will have an electric fence most likely . i cant build a fence but i will tryy .

just so you know, a "daily walk" will barely be enough. that dog will be able to walk 9-10 miles without wearing itself out. make your daily walk a 3-4 mile jog. it will be way better for him/her

aimee yea i know . we know the people who breed them and it is a ton of work with them . they will tear up the house if they dont go outside . and once spring time comes , i will be able to go the the track at school and weave him into my fitness . the problem im worried with is that my hard is right on the woods and the woods are notorious for coyotes . so letting him out unsupervised would be a horrible idea.

if i could get any dog . it would be the doberman . its too big for my house tho . my uncle in poland has one . one of the smartest and most loyal dogs ive ever met .

also if you are going by a large group of animals (ducks or any other smaller animals), at least my cousins dog does this, it will try to herd them.

People always have something bad to say about rottweilers, theyre very good dogs, when you hear about rottweilers attacking people, its because the dogs were abused and neglecked. Theres no such thing as a bad dog, just a bad owner

My dog is a border collie/belgian sheepdog mix, was really playful when it was young (15 now). Could do backflips if you threw a ball at him correctly. Would be the worst guard dog ever though.s

They may seem a little smaller than what you are thinking, but again as you said you live in a duplex..  Dogs need mores space than you think.  I first met my dog Brutus, a brown and white springer, the day he was born across the street from me.

He is now seven and still the healthiest, best dog we have ever had.  He is trained well and listens, always comes right up to you greeting you, and is really active.  He loves to be outside, running, swimming, playing, or just laying in the grass.  He even chases butterflies

On the opposite side, he guards our family like no other.  With no training in guarding or that, he will bark at people (especially men) that come onto our property or our home fiercely enough that they get the idea, yet he has never bitten or approached someone, and once he sees us greet them, or tell him to stop, he's back to being calm.

I have an italian mastiff (cane corso) they can be big dogs depending on how big the parents are. They can look very mean if you have their ears cut, my mastiff is very playful and about 90 pounds, they can get up to about 130 though. My cousin has one and it just looks like its on steroids, absolutely no body fat. My uncle breeds them, so I'm pretty sure they can stand the cold winters.

cutting the ears off is kind of cruel.. that was originally done for war purposes so the opposing soldiers had to shoot the dog and couldnt just grab the ears and tail.

Well now they cut the ears just because that is what the breed is supposed to look like but we didnt have my mastiffs ears cut so she looks a lot less threatening. Usually when the ears are cut the dog looks mean, most people dont even wanna go near the dog, if you want a threatening dog for like a gaurd dog it would be a good breed, whenever i see my cousins mastiff i get the chills.

huskies r sick dogs. they can be tough but gentle too and if u raise them right there good with kids and dont bark at like squirrels like some dogs do

this is my dog. he's a cockapoo and doesn't fit in with much of what you said. but he's awesome and old as fuck. 17 last february.

I have bad allergies so picking dogs took forever to find one I wasn't allergic to.

he's deaf and partially blind, but still loving life
