You really didnt respond with any sort of argument at all. Money over everything is not an accurate description of capitalism at all. More often than not business owners pride themselves on taking care of their customers and clients.
'Capitalism is an economic system in which the means of production and distribution are privately owned and operated for a private profit'
ya, try replacing the last bit there with making people happy... I don't think so.
Even still, you're saying that the only people that business cares about are the people that
give them money. Case closed, capitalism is about making money.
You clearly didnt even read what I wrote. I never absolved MMS of anything. I said it was pathetic what they did, but there will always be shady companies like them.
you did mention the BP oil spill, and how they chose to not maintain a high level of preparedness because the government failed at inspecting. The MMS is that government agency, which was riddled with corporate insiders. My point being that you can't say it's the governments fault without also blaming the corporations in charge.
aka
a private insurance provider would have inspected better.
I'll give you the 'plenty of companies who'd be out to make billions'... But who's going to make sure that the insurance companies are held accountable for the coverage they provide?
The public doesnt need to impact the standards, and you must be insane if you think they do today. What makes you think some politician is in a good position to determine safety measures for oil companies?
the resources provided to him by the government to do the unbiased studies to determine those answers. Your vote and mine hold the politician accountable. We have no such power over the corporate entity.
The public doesnt impact the professional standards that doctors are held to, doctors actually set the standards themselves (read some medical malpractice cases).
read some stem cell research cases...
