Colorado College?

I'm a senior in High School and pretty sure Colorado College is my top choice. I know when i got a tour there last year, I saw a kid wearing a Jiberish Pier 32, so I know there's skiers there, does anyone on NS go there?

I was kind of wondering, what are your thoughts about it? Everyone I've talked to who's gone there or knows someone who has says great things about it, but I wanted to hear from someone personal. Thanks.

pretty sure they got the go ahead to offer 4 year degrees.  too bad colorado is full.  check out iowa state.

I think he thought you were talking about CMC... you're talking about Colorado University though, right?

Colorado is probably the skiing capital of the world. I live in Breckenridge, but that being said... I'd say the ski/snowboard ratio is 2/1. Doesn't sound huge, but it is compared to the rest of the U.S.

I'm sure you'll find a ton of friends. It's a super super super chill state to live in. Can't help much on the college thing though since I don't go there...

Nah, I think he is talking about actual Colorado College in Colorado Springs. The one that uses the block plan. I am a freshman here this year. It seems real dope so far and I can't wait to shred summit county. Hit me up if you got anymore questions or come to visit.

my dad went there. Basically, if you want to have a job after you graduate, it isn't a great school, if you want to go to grad school it is.

i've heard good things about the school, but CO springs is far from ski mountains.  have fun battling traffic down to i-70 on a sunday night then still having to make it to CO springs.  you could be looking at (on a bad day and time) a 4 hour drive back from the mountains.

but really, you should be go to school for the education, not the skiing.  in which case it is a good place.  still, it will be hard to get much skiing in at all from down there.

Yeah, Colorado Springs is pretty much the only sore spot about the school for me. I'm not too worried about the drive back though, I could just sleep or do homework. From talking to people, it sounds like you could get to ski every weekend, and every four weekends you could get four days in, which would be awesome.

I don't know why you would be taking 70. Taking the 24 to the 9 will get you to Breck in 1:45 if you are disregarding all the speed limits. There is never traffic going the back way and the roads never close down.

But yea, CO Springs sucks. If it was a choice between death and living there for the rest of life I would choose death.

I go there, may have talked to you via PM already. I'm having a fantastic time, there are definitely a lot of skiers here. I have to read 300 pages tonight but it's totally worth it once block break comes around.

CC is a great school. I have heard a couple people complain about the block schedule, but most people seem to prefer it over a traditional schedule. A little bit farther away from the mtns than CU or DU, but not far enough to let it effect your decision to go there.

Yeah I talked to you a little over PM's.

It looks like I might be coming down there to visit in 2 weeks because my school has a couple days off for teacher conventions. Can anyone who goes there tell me if you guys are in class the 21st and 22nd of October? I'd like to go sit in on a class if possible, so it would kind of suck if you were on break then.

I just graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in May and moved to the Springs where I teach high school math for Teach For America. The Springs is a pretty shitty place but my roommates and I got a house right on CC's campus which makes it much more tolerable. Stoked to get out of PA though!

So, short notice, but I'm coming down there tomorrow through Thursday. I'm going on the tour, going to a class, and getting an interview on Wednesday, and also I'm set up to stay in someone's dorm, so it should be pretty fun. Would anyone be down to meet up, say, at lunch or something? Anyways, look out for me, I'll wear a brown Level 1 hoodie from a couple years ago.

I have some friends that go to CC and like it a lot.

But if you can afford to go to CC, check out DU too. It's much much closer to skiing and there's so many skiers there to the point where campus is boring on the weekends in the winter cuz everyone is in the mountains.

I thought about checking DU out, but I decided I wanted to go to college based more on the school than anything because, well, it is college. I'm from Montana and could go to MSU and get a lot of great skiing in, but I want to go to a school with the best fit for me academically if I'm going to be throwing thousands of dollars at them, and CC is my top choice because of that.

I'm not sure. Something in the humanitites probably, maybe history, philosophy, political science, economics, etc.

well sounds like you've already checked cc out in person, but i'll give you my 2 cents.

i was debating between cc and another school that was a lot closer to the mountains.  let me tell you that i was plesantly sruprised when i got to cc -  there were way more serious skiers than i expected.  F.U.C.C. is now the biggest club on campus (i think its half the shcool or something rediculous like that). they have buses going to the mountains every weekend so getting to the hills should be no issue. plus a lot of people have cars - including freshman. there have been a lot more skiing related events on campus in recent years too.  this year cc will be having its first on campus rail jam.  stept, poorboyz, msp, and powderwhore are all showing movies on campus. you will not be dissapointed if you come here i can assure you.

Nah, I've already looked at the school so they didn't give me the travel voucher, and it wasn't really worth it for me to drive down there.

you get a discount on it if you buy it before october, the FUCC (freeriders union of CC) will have a booth out in the worner center every friday I believe. you can also order it online, that's what I did.

Hey!

I'm from Ohio and just found this thread. Transferring from Ohio State to Colorado College next year! Anything I should know about the skiing that hasn't already been said? Does any urban riding or anything go down in the fall?

Just found this thead too, I'm a junior in Hs and just got back from a trip to colorado. I'm a snowboarder(im thinking about trying skiing next season), is there alot of snowboarders there too / do they mingle?
