Replying to Greatest Class Ever/Jay-Z Lyrical Genius?

Okay, so I just started this class in my school today called Hip Hop/Spoken Word. There's four kids, and we just kick it and listen to rap everything from Wu-Tang, Biggie, Tupac and pre-mainstream Jay-Z. But anyway the teachers a boss, he grew up in the projects of brooklyn, knew funkmaster flex, and has these dope dreds. We don't even play censored music!

But anyway, I figured this guy is just another guy who listens to rap coz he's black. But no yo, he knows its poetry he said "RAP AINT FO WHITES OR BLACKS RAP FOR PEOPLE WHO UNDERSTAND" "WHEN I WAS YOUNG MY MOMMA TOLD ME GO BACK TO SCHOOL I AINT GON DO SHIT LISTENIN TO THESE KIDS TALK BOUT DEM GUNS BUT RAP MORE DEN DAT, RAPS EXPRESSION." It is so true though.

But anyway, today he played some pre-mainstream JayZ.

The Son was 22 Twos. Below. At first I listened and thought Jay-Z had good flow, he asked what I thought, and I told him that. He said naw man theres more than that, and he played it again. He said listen closely. You'll notice after the first of jayz's verses' he says that's 22 twos. What does that mean? Jay Z said "2" 22 times in the first verse. Lyrical Genius. But then to show he isn't a fluke, in the next verse, the alliteration is on the words 22 times. When this man told me this, I truly understand what rap is about. As he puts it, rap is for everyone, the rappers are usually black, but the producers usually white have to underlay the beat which gets just as much respect. To people outside the spectrum, rap is just cursing, and gun talk. But if you are inside, you'll hear that aside from the cursing and gun references, it tells a story of brothers and their experiences.



Yes, my class is beast, and it's in school!
And yes this mindfucked me when I first heard Jay-Z spit.
