the goalie thread made me think of this..
i'm not trying to argue or anything. but..

anytime soccer comes up people always make hateful remarks. so, without hate and arguing, could you please explain the reasons why you dont like soccer?

or do you just hate on it cuz its the american thing to do?

I thoroughly enjoy soccer. I played for years and even played varsity for a year in high school. I don't obsess over it or anything, but I did watch the world cup and i love kickin a ball around with friends

This.

The sad thing about soccer is that so much time is wasted with them just playing injured that it ruins the experience.

As far as I remember, entire wars have been started from a soccer game (Soviet Bloc or the Balkans i think). Thats passion. Thats what sports should be about.

Ok, I'm sick of all this "soccer is for pussies" bull shit. You know when a player goes down because he barely gets touched? It's tactic. Seriously, it gives your team an advantage. It actually takes skill to flop. You need to have perfect timing; study of players and refs. Flopping is just the same as stealing signals in baseball, OR, ever notice how the punter or kicker in football always leaves his leg in the air for that extra second? It's to get the overzealous rushers to hit him and cause a penalty to give his team an advantage.

Kids in my high school league try to do this all the time, but it never works. I've been kicked in the face 3 times this past week with a broken finger (I'm a goalie) and still I'm playing. Don't be calling me a pussy.

these are just a few players that span beyond the realm of being pussies.

notice however there aren't any italian players here. i will admit that they do carry thigns a little too far. as well as ghana in some instances.

well lets compare(using the 2010 world cup vs super bowl XLIV and other aspects of the games):

Soccer(futbol):
final score: 1-0, game time 90+ minutes, pre game show/closing ceremony featuring shakira who sucks balls, spain won(should have been germany), and then theres that fucking octopus. however that goal in ET was pretty clutch.

other aspects: there arent any real rivalries that you can enjoy every day of the 'season' but the amount of hot chicks is unmatched(good thing)


Football:
final score: 31-17(technically: 4 field goals and 5 TDs), 60 minutes, amazing mid game show(OAR was great even though they are like 80), i didnt really care about the winner/loser(pats all the way), and the whole game is actually interesting, not just a 10 seconds out of every 30 minutes

other aspects: rivalries that last a decade(games dont get much better pats v colts) and almost every team plays almost every week. only bad thing is its not year long

so in conclusion i wouldnt mind soccer if it wasnt so god damn boring and shit actually happened, and i thought the 06 world cup is great but footballs pretty much interesting all the time

Yes, the final wasn't great as far as football is concerned, but I would count someone taking a flying kick to the chest as at least something happening.
My real grievance though - no rivalries? Fuck off. Football has THE biggest rivalries in world sports. Have you never heard of football Firms? And a decade isn't jack shit.
Finally, the closing show at the world cup was fairly gash, but that's because people want to get on with the sport because it's better.

And American football is 60 minutes game time, yes. Interspersed by the teams trotting on and off the field and setting up plays. But maybe you like it cos your attention span can only handle 10 second bursts.

And to everyone else, don't even bother bringing up big hits, because if that's your argument, you should be watching rugby.

Soccer really is fun to watch. Now the MLS isn't all that great. But if you watch one of the European leagues there is some great action in there. If you liked the world cup, you'll like it.
