Final Cut Pro vs. Vegas

Hey there,

I like to make edits and I'm currently using Vegas 7.0. I can safely say that I'm a n00b when it comes to editing. Anyway, I could have a copy of Final Cut Pro and I was wondering which one was the best/easier to use? Thanks !!

i have vegas 7 to. i fucking hate it!!! my brother has final cut and its 100000000000000000 times better. but thats just my two cents

I have used both vegas pro 9 and final cut pro, both of them have their strong points and their weaknesses, if you are a mac user...final cut pro, that is all, it is a great application and it may seem hard to learn at first but thats what the google search bar is for, however if you are on a pc go for vegas, it is a very very good program to begin on.

Hahahahahahahahahaha

Final Cut is "the industry standard" for a number of reasons, which you can Google. From what I've heard, the nice part about it is that it fully integrates with other programs that come in Apple's Production Suite, or whatever its called.

FCP/PP > Vegas fsho.

Someone should actually post why they think FCP is better than Vegas. I have been using Vegas pro 9 for two years and havent had one issue with it other than a small amount of lag during playback. I havent had the chance to try FCP and just about everyone on NS thinks its superior, so someone please tell me why

its more of an industry standard then anything. you go to most television stations and schools and they are most likely working off of fcp.

sorry your not going to find a working copy of avid in a torrent. avid uses a hard key so good luck getting one of those. Avid did buy out pinnacle a few years ago. I used to use that program and it suck back in the day, but i bet the people at avid have made vast improvements.

i think alot of tv shows are im not sure though, but i jsut have a feeling that almost all tv shows are, they also might use after effects a tad too

In My opinion With the final cut studio, you get all these different programs such as color, soundtrack, motion and others, and the workflow between them is very very simple, but if you have sony vegas it does not come with those programs and it isnt the easiest workflow between programs, and also its just the fact that final cut is more user friendly than vegas, also final cut pro was designed to also work side by side with after effects which i did not know until i just googled that because i dont have after effects, and i thought that premier was the best choice if your running after effects but thats just my two cents so wait for other answers too

Final Cut has a broader range of tools than Vegas. It also integrates extremely well with the rest of the Final Cut Suite, which is amazing (Soundtrack Pro, Color, Motion, Compressor, Dvd Studio Pro). If you have the space on your harddrive download all of FCS3 (the torrent is right there on TPB if thats what you choose to do). IMO final cut is easier to learn and the workflow is far superior to Vegas as well, and accepts a wider variety of formats. Flexibility, professionalism, broad range of usage, and ease of workflow make it better than Vegas.

and its quickly becoming the industry standard, its an amazing program, the workflow is awesome and working between all the programs in the suite together is very easy

Actually no. I would argue that FCP already is an industry standard, but it is definitely not becoming one. In fact, many users are griping that Apple isn't putting enough work into updating and revising FCP - I've read that people are thinking about switching BACK to other things pending Apple doesn't update their programs

I read all the posts and such and for my needs fcp does the job and that seems to be the problem that people are having, not being able to do what they need to quick/efficiently enough, thats why I switched from vegas to fcp...just curious, what do you feel needs revision in fcp, one for sure is rendering

This is going to make me sound like the biggest hypocrite, but I don't use FCP - I may in the near future if I can get it for free from a friend, but right now I use Premiere. Why? I know it, its fast, and I like it. Done deal.

Anyways, from what I've read, heard, watched, and tried on FCP, I think that its real strength is color, both in in-program filters and Apple Color itself. Color is an incredible program, and even the clones like Colorista, while they're good, don't stand up to it. That and the ease of use of FCS are what put FCP up there. In most other respects its no better than any others.

I guess I'm only talking about what I do like, not about what needs revision, but I'm not qualified to talk about whats bad. I only really know what I've heard through third party communications, not one-on-one experiences.

until you actually try FCP you wont know, ive used both side by side and vegas is such a cluster fuck when compared to FCP

but of course, if you dont have a mac, you can't use FCP/FCE, and if you do and you're not, then you should just get rid of your computer

They both run as plugins for FCP, you add the effect, press a button and it takes you to an external program, you edit the image then return to final cut and the whole clip is edited.
