Ski sizing rule??

I know it's a generalization but do u think it is a bad idea to buy skis that are taller than you?is that just to much ski to handle?

im 5 6" which is about 168 cm. is geting a 178 anthem a bad choice?

Post what type of skier u are, and what the main use of the ski is; ie. If u charge, only hit jumps and want a ski that will somewhat float, plus ur looking at growing its probably not a bad idea, but if ur looking for a rails only ski and u don't ever ski pow, and don't ski hard its probably a horrible idea, but in my experience, if ur considering going with a ski that a lot of people would say was too long for u, its probably about the right size. At least it will force u to either become a better skier, or be hopelessly out of controll all the time...lol

ok so im about 140 lbs.
east coast so im a rail and jib skier but im trying to improve my jump game.I ski the pow when i can....i ski very frequently so im pretty sure i can adjust to the ski size

i just feel like im at the point where i should start riding some bigger skis to make me a better skier because even though its more to handle there are definitly benefits

1. rails are the same as jib
2. id say like a 174 ski for u cause im 5'8'' and i have 176

Rails ARE jibs but jibs can be basically anything besides snow
taps,boxes,wallrides,anything creative

ND THEY ONLY COME IN 171 OR 178

skis dont know how tall you are, they know how heavy you are, buy based on your weight, because they will control better to your weight, tis how theyre made

the longer your skis are, the more stability you have when charging and you are less likely to wash out on imperfect landings.
plus, you dont look like a snowblader dumbass.
buuuttttt....
having to handle that much ski will take getting used to, but in the end will make you a better skiier.

I think that as long as you think you can handle them (and you weigh enough), get 178's

Depends on many things such as:
-Height/Weight
-Skier ability
-Type of terrain you ski
-Ski flex
-Twin tip/ flat tail
-Mount position

well k2s skis are usually 3cm longer than what they say they are so yeah they will be a bit longer but the rocker will make the skis ride shorter so yeah you should be fine

i see where your coming from,if i get em im going to have to adjust to them 1 way or another
idk coming off a 160 and being a rail skier im not sure 178 is right for me

If your worried about being slowed down on rails by too much ski, then go ahead and stay in the 160's, just keep in mind though that if you go too short, you lose some balance on rails.
But really, it all depends on your personal preference and what you will be using the ski for.

fuck...they only have 178's left and im getting getting a killer deal
its either get the 178's for 250$
or pay a lot more for the 171's online

If you haven't already, go with 178 for sure.

Lines measure closer to 174, along with the center mount. You will be fine. Seriously.

Def go with the 178, ur gonna have a ton of fun. Soo many benefits to longer skis, more stability, pop, just all around a good idea

Rocker will put your contact points closer to your feet, making it ski shorter. On an S3 2010 has rocker in the tip but not a ridic amount and still has camber under foot, you probably won't notice it at all.

Original Post: I'm 5'4" and under 120lbs. I ski 167 in the park and 175 all mountain. If I read correctly, moving up from a 160? I think you're going to laugh at a 160 after you try something else :)

Im 5'7ish and ski 184s and 181s. Youll adjust, and if theyre center mounted, they will still feel pretty short.
