no. i said the majority if not all people start using drugs as a form of escape. majority of addicts have problems with themselves, their homes, their lives, whatever. i never said that there is no such thing as addictions.

statistics have shown that most drugs have been used for recreational habits that then lead to addiction. just because they have problems doesn't mean they'll pick up the pipe.

read all posts before assuming. not that you'll find the answer you want in there anyways. i said they were mental illnesses, i acknowledged drug addiction was a serious problem, i simply said labeling addictions and other things as diseases can enable and discourage better or even initial treatment. patients or "victims" will feel like there's no way out if they have a disease. wording is key. that's like why they changed std's to sti's. because it sounds better. in this case, if you told me my dysthymic disorder was a disease, i would pretty much feel like i had it for life, and it would make my hill into mount everest. thank you. i simply don't categorize disorders as diseases. i think you can refer to the south park picture about how a lot of people think of alcoholism being coined a disease. that is all.

My buddies dads, who made space shuttle parts and lived in a multimillion dollar house was an alcoholic. He drank so much that his esophagus detached, I don't know exactly medically what this means but it sounds terrible. The doctors were able to correct this but told him if he kept drinking he would die. He passed away early last year.

All I can say that if he would have gotten dependent on weed he would still be around today, that I am sure of.
