My Government teacher and I got into a fight today...

About marijuana. He was asking us if it should be legalized for private use in ones home, and i was one of 2 people who said yes. I explained why I though so, saying it is the safest drug for you, and every drug (tobacco, alcohol, etc.) is much more dangerous for you. I said it doesn't have any effect on you and he replied with a story saying that his best friend in high school became bi-polar from smoking supposedly straight up bud, it wasn't laced at all. i find that complete bull-shit but i didnt say anything because i didnt want to hurt his feelings. hahaha. i then said it is already starting to become legal for recreational use in breckenridge and he just laughed at me. he said that isn't possible and i was just getting pissed at this point. He said the states where it is legal for medicinal purposes, such as cali and colorado, the police can still arrest you for having it, even with a license. is this true? im supposed to bring in the law about breck tomorrow to prove him wrong and laugh in his face.

oh and drop the "yeah well some people i know are lazy potheads and dont do anything all day." those people were lazy fuckheads in the first place and are weakminded so they blame their shortcomings on pot. if it wasnt grass it'd just be something else.

its all about the type of person really, pot effects everyone differently, if you are going t show up late for a job its not the pot that made you late its the person, pot doesn't change the way you naturally think, the lazy stoners were lazy before they toked up. i am the kind of "pot head" that goes out and summits a peak after smoking.

Exactly! This is the one thing that people need to understand. Any like any other "drug" it effects everyone differently like you said. Sure, it isn't for some people but neither is alcohol, cigarettes, meat, fast food, sugar.....I think you get the point.

yep, i can't even handle a baby dip, or a cigarette, if i end up even trying one i get the spins and puke. never been able to handle much alcohol. but there is one thing i can do 24-7 and not feel the bad side effects. and i know plenty of people who can't handle more than a bowl and feel they need to go to the hospital, and the laced claim comes out

see i wouldnt classify someone like you as a typical stoner, someone who smokes before or while doing something fun to make the experience "better" though i would disagree with that, is not at all like someone who just needs weed all the time to be happy.

but the question is, why not. its really not that bad for a developed brain, i feel that even 17 year olds can handle it in moderation. there is no proof that thc is bad for someone. yes granted that smoking anything is bad for your lungs, unlike cigarettes, pot isn't grown with radioactive fertilizer, and get govt subsidies to do so. it does mat down the cilia in your lungs. but if you have seen super high me, you would know that 30 days of just straight pot smoking only effects your lung capacity a few percent marks, i cna't remember the numbers but it was like 93% to 87%. people can also get psychologically addicted to pot, but in all honesty people that make these claims are total tools looking for an excuse because they suck at life. pot is awesome, i know for a fact you'll try it, i hope you think of me when you lay into that bowl. and be safe brotha

but still, all the people i know who smoke di herb regularly (daily or more), are lazy as fuck...

+for reference one of my friends used to go to every class in college before he started smokin weed, then once he started smokin, he started skipping classes, now he even skips oral exams because his bed seemed to have better arguments...


i'm not implying the two are related, but it's an interesting coincidence...

and an occasional user is not an addict
and for as far as i can tell from people i know, the ones that smoke daily are all lazy as fuck ...

occasional smokers however don't seem to be affected very badly, my best friends tokes up weekly or so and he scores somewhere in the 90th percentile @ college and he isn't above average gifted or anything, he's just a hard working guy that commits to anything he does....

that being said, it still doesn't prove anything about the relationship between smoking and laziness, all that i can tell is what i saw/experienced from people in my direct vicinity...

well i think the friend that started skipping was in his first semester of college? if so i never skipped classes until i got into college. it suck ass man, i did like a half semester won't go back.

plus i smoke on a very regular basis and can keep three jobs.

he held out 2y @ college, and now he's flunking out, skipping 5/7exams and he's gonna try and become a science teacher....


i'm sure he'll make a great example for those kids...

and on regular basis, is that daily? or just when you feel like doing so?

for reference, my stoner buddy is actually quite extreme on his marijuana use, every morning when he wakes up, he lights up a blunt, puts on some reggae music, turns out all the lights and goes back to bed for another 30 minutes before he actually comes out .... and then during the day he smokes at least one more joint ...

oh i could care less if its unhealthy, if you wanna do something thats bad for you thats fantastic, i dont think its a bad thing, do what you want. there are way worse things you could be doing for your body than smoking pot.
i just dont like the idea of relying on a mind altering substance to make you happy. if i want to feel good, i go out and do something that makes me happy. ive never felt the need to smoke, never felt the need to drink or anything, its just not appealing at all to me. and ive been around people that do it all the fucking time for the last 3+ years, im pressured almost every day to do it, and my opinion still hasnt changed.
i have lots of friends that ive kinda lost because of their choice to start smoking, my best friend in higschool and first year out of highschool used to never smoke, drink or anything, he would ski with me every day, we'd do fun shit all the time in summer, then he started smoking more and more, and he started doing less and less, and now he ski's maybe 10 days a season. he's gotten just extremely depressing to be around, and he pretty much lost me as a friend.
and ive got like 5 other somewhat close friends that the same thing happened to.
lets just say ive never seen weed affect anyone in a positive way, its always been negative.

well getting into the mind altering drugs that make you happy. what about prozac or zoloft. are those people bad? they need those drugs to help with a chemical imbalance in their brain, what if people turn to pot as a more natural way to be happy?

i really dont wanna get into this, but ive got a close relative who was fighting pretty severe depression, like thinking about suicide, wouldnt go outside, etc.. and despite the multiple doctors telling him he needs to take medication, he wouldnt, it was his decision, but mostly the families decision. and with the families help he is now basically through it.
he made mistakes and didnt have a very good life at all, and he let it get to him, but my family helped him turn his life around, got a job he really enjoy's, gets out all the time, made alot of new friends, and he's a happy guy now, still not perfect, but getting better every day, and much happier than your average person. and it was all with no help at all from drug's.
I also have a friend who's mom has depression, she's been on medication for more than 5 years. and if she's not taking her medication, she goes back to extremely depressed, and when she's on it, she's just crazy, and not quite all there. its kinda sad to see really.

IMO depression is something that can only truly be cured by manning up and changing your life or whatever it is that needs to change to get through it, if you have a chemical imbalance in the brain, then tough, your just gonna have to work a little harder, your gonna have just saying, "oh ill pop a pill every day and that will work" doesnt actually cure it.

true first time i smoked i had to go to the hospital for an allergic reaction (my doc told me i had one) i had a 104 fever for about 5 days. my friend also smoked that for the first time and he was fine.

i don't really know how to explain...but basically depression is really literally all in your head. the imbalanced chemicals are caused by negative thoughts, or growing up in a negative environment. good therapy, positive thinking (as fucked up as this sounds), and working to change your thinking patterns can change the imbalance itself. (i am stating now that i have absolutely no knowledge or experience or information on whether this is relevant to types of manic depression or bipolar disorder.)

pills don't generally fix anybody, and often make symptoms worse, or cause relapses. you have to ween off anti depressants as well, which if not done properly can cause a relapse as well. they're pretty much a band aid solution. it doesn't heal the wound, it just stops the bleeding, but the wound will probably stay infection. i mean it works for some people, but it depends on the case. i have acute depression, and chose not to take pills because i don't think it'll solve anything. you don't really always need the pills to fix the problem, you really just need a good therapist, and you have to be dedicated to killing your bad habits.


on the note of pot and depression. i started smoking for fun, and it was fine, but i also then started hallucinating, and bad tripping all the time. i would get very angry or depressed, and paranoid. it stopped being fun and that sucks. i could never be able to drive if i was high either for that matter. other than being a vegetable, i usually didn't feel like i could see straight.

I find that part about the teacher knowing someone who smoked weed and became bi polar interesting.  I know someone who was normal at the beginning of college, but smoked a decent amount(of weed), and at the end of freshman year was diagnosed as having bi polar disorder.  Now I don't know if there has been any research done to see if there is a direct correlation between marijuana and bi polar disorder.  Interesting stuff though...

it's not funny! i hallucinated twice! it was fucked up. i'm not lying. MAYBE IT WAS LACED. but seriously. i was measuring the distance between my skull and my forehead, and everyone was neon and black. i didn't see gnomes, everything just looked weird. don't believe me.

the seizure could have easily been caused by extreme anxiety from not being able to accept the altered state of mind. I have had seizures from stress alone, and weed really helps me with my stress, so i guess it works differently for different people. I have been smoking since i was fourteen (no that was not two weeks ago), and the only difference i have noticed in myself is i am generally a lot more chill about stuff. People who say that it makes you a lazy fat retard are bullshitting because those type of people were like that before they started smoking anyway. And about it possibly being legal. well shit! that just makes it a lot better for people who are curious and it will raise the awareness in america a lot.

If you have a family history of or have underlying mental illnesses, then pot is probably not safe for you as studies have shown that these illnesses can be brought into full affect from smoking pot. If you don't have any of that crap like most of the population then weed is completely safe for you. Was that what this thread was asking?

I posted it earlier in here but there has been research done about it. What has been found out so far is that some people have bi-polar disorder or schizophrenia but it usually doesn't start up until late 20's and early 30's, sometimes even later. If one of those people smokes pot, it brings the disorder on earlier and the symptoms increase a great amount. Now the advice I give to anyone is that if you think you may be bi-polar or schizophrenic do not smoke marijuana as it can and will trigger the onset of the disorders.

addiction is every bit a disease as cancer is. mental issues aint shit, your body becomes chemically dependent. brain chemistry gets changed, when it gets to a point that quitting drinking can kill you. thats a disease.
