Freezing cilantro

i like cooking with it, but it's always sold in huge bundles and goes bad before i can use it all. does anyone cook, and or know generally how to freeze it, if it's possible? i know i can google it, i was just wondering if anyone with experience actually has some tips. thanks you!

i know my mom freezes herbs n stuff when she gets a lot of it from her garden so i guess you can do the same with cilantro

you can freeze it but it wont taste the same. just like any other veggie, when you freeze it the nutrients wont be there either really. so all freezing does to it is stop it from molding. cilantro production is up like 90% in the US. people be eating it.

You can definitely freeze it. How long do you plan on storing it for? You can put it in a vase with water just like cut flowers too. I think some people will also put a bag on top of this to keep it humid. Usually lasts a week or so like this for us.

hang it up to dry then crush it up and use it that way, it lasts for a good while like that.

i worked at a bakery for 3 and half years and this is what we would always do. it retains all the flavor even when it's dried.

Then it won't go bad - just keep a pot growing on a balcony, greenhouse, inside or something...

yeah, i was thinking of this when i went to my friends this weekend, she had the pots that hang on the railings as her little herb garden. we have a veggie garden, but i think ill do the herbs in a pot next year!

my bf's mom told me to dry it for better results too.

i put it in a glass of water, like flowers, and put it in the fridge, it should keep for a a week or 2

A bunch of cilantro is like $1 or even like $.50 at least where I live in WA.  If I don't use it all and have extra I usually make a salsa, or even through it in a fruit smoothy, cilantro is def some of the tastiest stuff around, just don't add a ton otherwise it will taste like some hippy grass drink, or salsa haha.  I wouldn't freeze it though.

Ya they sell the indoor growing stuff at most larger grocery stores. I just buy the cilantro that still hats the roots on and everything usually keeps in the fridge for like two weeks

Remove all moisture then put in a quality zip lock bag will last a few extra weeks. But if you have extra you could always just put it in a guac.

One way to freeze it I have no tried but have seen lots of info on is by freezing it in ice cube trays.

If you are able to measure out consistent measurements of cilantro you can have each ice cube hold certain fractions of table spoons or weights depending on what your recipes are like.

chea you need to chop it up and then freeze it, but it will lose a lot of flavor and the texture will become much less crisp and way more like soggy. it does work tho. good luck bro
