How much do you spend on food per week?

Title says it. How much do you like to spend on food per week, and where are you from?

I just moved into my first place, first time buying all my own groceries and all that. I have no idea how much is reasonable to pay for them. I want to have money left over to ski and go out and be social, but food's pretty important for living and all that.

Oh, and what are some tasty, filling, cheap meals to make?

i go to the grocery store about 2 times a week, usually spend around 150-200 avg a week. not including beer.

Or you could just buy actual pasta.

Rice, Pasta, Potatoes are great as you can do a lot of different sauces and stuff to make them really good.

get yourself a crockpot ita a very good investment can make any food amazing and you just throw it in and let it cook while your working and makes alot do it.

It really depends on what you buy (quality-wise/brand-wise), how much you buy, and how much you eat. For me around $40-$50 a week would do just fine, sometimes less.

probably around 75 dollars, buying generic brands...and the other day at the grocery store something really struck a never, i was buying my food generic brand etc and this lady with the top of the shelf foods in front of me payed with a bridge card.grrr

I'm guessing thats like EBT (Food Stamps) here? I see that all the time where I work, people buying the most expensive stuff, or candy and ice cream and stuff. And then they to a separate transaction to buy cigs. Its really irritating.

but like someone else said, pasta, potatoes, fruits/veggies, and buy cheaper meats (unless you're a steak snob like me). Also, buy generic as much as possible (although I hate generic cheerios for some reason) If you're buying for one person, you should probably be able to keep it under $100 a week easy. $50 might be pushing it unless you eat out a lot.

fruit juice
eggs
bread
protein shakes
multivitimans
beans, rice, pasta
meat for when im classing it up

if you dont buy pre made shit, you can get some really good meals for cheap, as long as you put some work into making the meals. like pizza and real mac n cheese. you can make some sick burgers and steaks as well. just buy the basic ingredients and cook like a man.

I usually spend about 50 a week. or 200 in a month. Safeway is my choice of store, club member savings are crazy.

do this, but don't go on that diet if you don't want, but growing your own vegetables and fruits is awesome, we have watermelons growing out back right now.

lol im just a regular college student, my job is basically to take care of my lil sis since my mom moved away for work and my dad is always at work, so that bill is for her and i, we also dont cheap out on anything, also shopping at whole foods doesnt make it better.

i would suggest getting a rice cooker, and just cooking vast amounts of rice and freezing it. keeps it cheap, you can throw barbque on it, and veggies, and whatver else

Now that i live in Australia, i spend about 80 a week. Could cut back though. Alcohol is expensive here, compared to the US

nz, spend about $150 to $200 a week between 5 people. and eat lots of pasta and potatoes. substantial for your diet, and cheap as fuck in bulk.

@ college i technically only need to spend my money on food and drinks
i get 60euro/week (80$ i think?)

with this money i go eat in the student cafeteria almost every day, then i go to the grocery store maybe 1 or 2 times/week for bread and snacks and drinks
and even if i feel like spending a lot and eating out daily, I might spend 40euro (50dollar)

so i spend 50$/week on food and drinks and i don't even have to cheap out on anything, if i do cheap out, i can come around with 30$ perfectly fine
some weeks i don't even spend 10$ because i live off the excess food from previous week :)

you really don;t need to spend that much if you do it right..

remember if it is just you that food will spoil quickly when you can't eat it fast enough.. buy staples like bread, cheese, rice (hella cheap and filling) eggs, etc. ramen obviously is cheap.. my recommendation is buy fresh food.. cook meals if you are capable and freeze the left overs.. plenty of food for later.

btw things to do with ramen--- eggs, onions, vegetables, etc.. hotdogs.. you can make ramen worthwhile.. just be smart and only buy what you are actually gonna eat and you'll be fine.

yeah sometimes we spend upwards of $250 a week, rapes our bank balance. but at least we eat better than most people.
