So first some background:
I went to Chile with Evolve Chile and we did some hiking for our turns and i really enjoyed it, so I'm thinking of learning how to tour, but i don't know much about it.
Although I live in ontario, but I do travel a fair amount, and I intend on moving to British Columbia within the next couple of years. Since my brother moved to vancouver I now go to whistler to visit him yearly. I also go to Chile in the summer, so that is the main area i would be using this equipment in. I also enjoy skiing trees more than open bowls.
I intend on this being mainly a slack country type of set up, so weight isn't really much of a problem. Another thing is, I work at a ski store so I can pro deal most of the hardgood equipment.
I am 6' 1" about 215 pounds, a cautious level 3 skier. I'll hit some small drops but nothing bigger then ten feet most likely.
So from what I've gather is that I absolutely need a beacon, and that a probe and shovel is helpful. I also would really like to have an avalung as I had a scary moment in Chile, so i was thinking that this package would be a good idea,
For a beacon, I'm not as certain, i was just thinking about a bca beacon for now, and then when I move out west I would get a better one.
Another thing is, i'm not too sure on skins. As for which makes one better than the other and which one goes with which ski and all that jibber jabber.
Now for the Hard Goods. As stated before I am 6'1" and around 215 and a cautious level 3 skier. The shop I work at carries Atomic, Dynastar, Volkl, Rossignol, Liberty and Salomon. ( I've already decided on Marker Dukes for the bindings)
Now for touring, I understand that you want a more of a lighter pow ski, so not too wide but not too narrow. I would prefer to have a rocker ski so i don't tip dive. The main Ski I was looking at was the Atomic Blog, as it is 110 in the waist and has the pop rocker. Sounds pretty sick to me.
