Not filling up your tank

WTF? If you're not so fucking broke that you're living on food stamps and giving out blowjobs under the overpass then you can fill up your god damn tank. Jut put it on a card or something


You're going to use the gas anyway, and all you do by making 5 stops of $15 vs 1 stop of $75 is send your average fuel economy to shit by waiting in lines and turning on and off your car a shit ton of times.

I've never fucking understood this. What is this, a hedge against the possible decrease in gas prices over the course of a few days?

i normallyjust fill the truck up every week or so, but if i dont have the money right then, and say, the lady frend wants to go downtown or whatever i'll happily throw 10 bucks in the tank to go do stuff.

I always fill my tank. I reset my mileage every time so I know exactly when to fill up. plus gas is 2.95 near me now so im pretty happy about that. for 93 that is

Its an adventure man. I hardly ever put more than 10 bucks at time as I try to ride my bike as much as possible, definitely run out a few times. I've got my gas gauge on lock now though...

i pay 2.61, unless i fill up in the fuckin' hood near boston where somehow gas is still like 2.20. Probably because its watered down or something, i don't know.

but anyways, i normally fill my tank because i'm bound to use it all anyways. But i tend to only put in a few bucks if i know im just going to be around town for a few days, without having to drive to work in the city.

Just a question though, why not fill it up all the way. Youll still use just the same amount. You'll still ride your bike the same amount. You'd just have to stop less and probably not run out as often.

The reason that I never fill up all the way is Because i don't live off foodstamps and the blowjobs I give under the overpass ( I just cant seem to ever make enough at it)

Seriously though, being broke fucking blows, and always have to worry about how I'm going to afford gas to get to work so i can afford more gas to get to work is one of the worst parts. I put gas in whenever I can, but it is never sufficient, and when I can afford to fill up my tank, I usually just blow it because just knowing I have gas makes me want to go do things that often require me driving

i kinda agree with this guy. whenever i get gas i always fill my trucks tank all the way.


my gas gauge doesnt work below 1/4 tank though. after the needle hits the 1/4 line it doesnt move down anymore. so thats incentive for me.

i really do hate riding in other peoples cars when the gas gauge is like below empty and they just never fill up. then they finally stop for gas and will legitimately put in like $3 that about one gallon. great, we can get another 25 miles in perfect driving conditions.

I always fill up now too but I didn't always. I have a 45 minute drive to work so I get uneasy if the gas gauge is near empty. Also, waiting till the last minute is really bad for your car because it starts to suck up all the shit in the bottom of your tank

I just normally put in $20, because If I know I have gas in the car I will use it for just about anything and be lazy. But here gas is like $1.44 for 95, so I get more bang for the buck.

I always fill mine all the way up and I always make it exactly two weeks on a tank. I Amos always top it off to the next dollar amount. I couldn't believe I found Shell gas for $3.15 yesterday. It was $3.30 not too long ago. Needless to say, I was stoked.

well actually its better for fuel economy. gas has mass, more mass in your car means more work it has to do to move said mass. So your argument about the turning the car on and off more often is straight bunk, especially since we probably drive just as often as you would so that really makes no sense.

Also its a matter of we're broke. I used to have a credit card that my parents gave me to fill up with, so I filled up every time. Now that I'm paying I usually have less cash on me so Its better for me to put about half a tank (approx $15) in at a time.

Oh and running the tank all the way to way below E is just due to your friends stupidity, not the fact that they put less in.

also because it's in liters over here, not gallons. so at 1.44 a liter is about 5.75 a gallon.

my friend actually was on welfare and couldn't afford to fill up her tank sometimes. and she got stuck on the highway once because of it.
i didn't really get why she didn't just take the bus instead though...

i go down to my dads girlfriends place for sunday dinner and on the way down there is a gas station that is one of the cheapest in the city. i usually plan my gas tank to be nearly empty when i go by it and i just fill up again.

I fill up my tank but that's because I suck down gasoline like it's a beer bong in my Rango and go through tanks on a regular basis if I'm driving places. At 55-70 bucks a tank it's a bit expensive but it's worth it because I love my Rango.

I actually have valid arguments for why I do this :

1. Riding with a half full gas tank makes your car lighter and therefore you get a better mile per gallon ratio, and you end up saving money.

2. Where I'm from, in Montreal, we pay gas by the litre. Sometimes, the price of the litre can move up or down 10 cents overnight. By not filling it up all the way, if I put in 20 L at 110 cents on a certain day, if the day after it drops down to 100 cents / L , then I can fill up the rest of the car at that more economic price.

carrying a full tank around all the time is pretty senseless. somewhere around a quarter is easily enough for regular use.

maybe you like paying more in the end because you had 50-80 kg of unnecessary fuel which increases fuel consumption... you seem pretty legit.

Well, gasoline weighs less than water. A full tank on a Subaru impreza for instance weighs only 45-50kg. So if you're always driving with empty to 1/4th full you'll have between 0 and 10-13kgs of fuel in your car at any given time. If you drive with 1/2 to a full tank your have between 25 and 50kgs of fuel in your car. That won't affect your fuel consumption more than the extra mileage you will make in order to fill the tank up more often.
