Canon Video camera discussion.

Im just thinking from a business stand point that there is a bigger market for the dslrs for video use, therefore they may devote a lot of time and energy into that "section" of their business. honestly if they didnt release the t2i it would have been almost financially impossible to get a camera with the features the t2i has. I guess as a business they are listening to their consumer customers pretty well.

But no, I don't know why. In terms of "mid range" professional/indie HD cameras, Canon lacks too - the XHA1 < HVX/HPX/HMC/EX1 and so on.

Their DSLRs are clearly doing fine, but I think soon the market will shift to correct the inherent problems of DSLR filming by doing what Panasonic is doing, ie a hybrid between DSLRs and camcorders, so to speak - a camcorder with interchangeable lenses. Once that comes down in cost, there will be a much smaller market for DSLRs, assuming it comes down enough.

well sony is giving the hybrid concept a try with the alpha nex-3, its a brilliant idea except it only shoots interlaced...but its msrp is $1999 which is a very nice price for a low/mid range camera.

and on the topic of dslr's doing fine, I look at it as an athlete, for the demands of its users it does the "job" very well...

By the interchangeable lenses I was making more of a reference to the AF100, which is much more suited for indie filmmakers.

As for DSLRs...I see where you're coming from. However, they do have a lot of pitfalls that really rule out a wide range of their possible use. They were originally intended, remember, for journalists who maybe needed to get snippets or HD video amidst the pictures they were taking. Its now taken off into much more than that, but the original problems and limitations remain.

I like DSLRs, don't get me wrong, but I think the market and consumers and overall evolution of technology will move to get rid of these problems.

oh no doubt they have their down falls, nothings going to meet every demand of every filmmaker, thats why I love to read on the direction in which people take dslrs and make them meet their needs, and like you were saying companies and consumers will probably catch on to this and construct around the needs, ie the 60d and the swivel screen
