Freeskiing's Commercialization

Ok guys, i need your thoughts.


Why should skiing remain underground?
What are the negitive effects of commercialization? waht about the benefits? Would less commercialization of freeskiing create a more pure sport?

i think you shouldn't look at this from a stance that supports should or shouldn't. progression and commercialization are natural. either it will or it wont.

Ok, aplinecowboy is correct, but i just wanted to say one bad thing about it.. You get fuck whits saying they know all about it, just so they think they can be cool. i mean, its fine if they know anything about it, i've got a friend, and all he knows is one ski name, 'Seth Pistols' and i go oh yeah, wicked, you got some? and he's like yeah, blah blah i can pull a dick out of my arse in the air n shit, then i see him, and he's carvers. Nothin wrong, but you know... in some cases its ok, but in most, its fuckin annoyin'.. Sweet

the best idea ever was the one that was diabolicly hatched today at lunch in the hall way of my school. It involved a boat and beer and selling that beer to 14 yearolds for like $3 a bottel, so that way from every 24 we got, we would get 12 and then never have to pay for our own beer again. and if the poilice tried to stop us, we were drive away in a boat (which doesnt have a licence plate) but, if there were on a baot, we were throw peanuts at them, cause its highly probable that one of them in alergic to then and he would go into anaphletic shock and we were get away. if that didnt work we were catapult cows at them and wait for the headlines 'police boat sunk by flying cows'. --Apple.

its impossible not 2 commercialise a popular sport. the more popular skiing becomes the more commercial it will get. theres no way of preventing it. that isn't neccesarily bad though, i mean skating's survived. as long as we stick to our roots and the skiers themselves don't start just doing it for the money she should be sweet. im cool with it as long as we don't fall onto the hands of FIS.

it's not underground anymore and you probably know my thoughts already. it'll kill it. well, kill the soul and fun i mean. also it'll alienate those people who have a hard time with it.

it's already doing that actually. the attitude is getting way way out of control.

pro's have responsibility but it's hard to tell that to a 19 yr old millionaire.

Look at something like baseball. It's commercialized to hell at the professional level but on every block in every residential area in the whole continent kids get together and play the game cause they love to hit a sphere with a stick. My point is this: commercialization of a sport only affects it at the professional level. There will always be a grassroots group (which is much much larger than the elite group) which does the sport for the enjoyment of the sport.

christ, baseball may be commmercialized but you know the guys out there fuckin love their sport. arod and bastards alike are getting paid through the asshole, but you know when he's out there on the field he's there because he loves the money. skiing is a soul sport, it always will be, especially when you can't make a lot of money doing it - lets face it, pros will never be ridiculously rich.

If skiing ever reaches the commercial level of baseball the pros will be just as rich as baseball pros. And I wouldn't have any problems with pros being in it for the money or for the love of skiing. If someone can make money using a skill, they shouldn't have to be passionate about it. They can view it as a money-making skill.

And in any sport where you have the top guys making money, there are many people trying to get to the top not becuase they love the sport, but because they want the money. And that's cool too. I think that people should be allowed to do things for their own reasons...

naw, it can't be commercialized, it's an underground 'sport', it wouldn't be the same if it were all publicized and popular and shit, look at snowboarding, we don't want to be like that. plus, then it'll all just be a bunch of posers
