i learned them at windells this summer. find something like the bottom of a halfpipe. a steep transition and a moderately flat landing. basically just look straight back. make sure you fully commit and you won't get hurt. when you give up at the take off or halfway through is when you get hurt. when you come up to the lip, keep your shoulders square and pop decently hard off the lip. once you pop look straight back and focus on trying to find the landing. once you see the landing, pull your knees up towards your chest and this motion will finish the rotation for you. then just wait for the landing and steezily ride it out. they're super easy. just scary the first time. the way i just told you will make them more lay outs and they look sick. just remember the more speed you have and the faster and higher you go the easier it is to get the rotation and it will look better. good luck and just send it. you'll stomp it for sure.

its not hard, but you have to commit. just chuck it off a good jump that shoots you into very leaned back position, keep looking back until you see landing, then spot your landing and bring your feet around. if you have the right jump theyre very easy to learn, like off the end of a halfpipe is a good one or a home made jump into good snow. but not commiting is much worse than commiting just know that

i can back flip off of damn near everything higher than like three feet into water so i figured that a backflip on skis would be no big deal. well, the perfect day presented its self and i launched one off of a 40 foot super poppy step down only to lawn dart straight into the ground head first. i think that if there wasnt 3 feet of fresh pow i would have broken my neck/back

They are really quite simple if you commit and do this:

Pick out a fairly poppy 15 foot jump. Hit it a bunch and get a feel for how it kicks you and the speed needed to make it to the sweet spot of the landing. Approach the jump with your knees slightly bent. When approaching make sure your hands/arms are pulled back so you can throw them forward and up. While going up the transition of the kicker, throw your hips towards the sky (the most important part, it's where all your momentum comes from), your head straight back (and keep looking), and throw your arms forward and up. All of this should be in unison as you are going up the transition/leaving the kicker. Stay relaxed in the air and stay committed! in a blink of an eye you'll see the landing and it will be a natural feeling for you to pull your feet under you and stomp it like it ain't no thang!

Just remember, now you have to grab first...

But seriously, Backies are pretty easy, it's basically all about commitment and confidence. The first thing you want to do is find somewhere to get the motion down (I.E. Trampoline, Diving Board, ect.) with fairly low consequences. Then, you have to understand that you're going to be moving forward while flipping backwards (aka gainer - so learning these as well REALLY helps). Once you're mentally prepared (confident and ready to go) find a decent jump with a good amount of pop (a soft landing is also very nice), approach with enough speed to clear the knuckle, set with your arms pulled back and knees bent, POP HARD off the lip and throw your HIPS forward and up while you go with the same motion with you arms and head - DON'T CLOSE YOUR EYES - keep looking for the landing once you spot your landing make sure you don't go too far, reach for the ground with your feet and absorb your landing with your legs. DONE. Again, it's basically all about commitment (if you really thing about it, you're spinning less than a 360 - you just happen to be doing it a different axis).

start to lean back before u go off the jump when you reach the lip u need TO POP or u are not going to land once u pop kick ur legs/skis over ur head then spot the landing and u should be fine

I tried my first one off a big mound of snow that people started jumping off of on a powder day. I had doubts in the inrun but I didnt speed check and I just leaned back off the jump and did half a backflip and landed on my belly. A few days later me and some other guys built a steep jump and I just threw them. I think a lot of people will come up short the first try so do it into something steep and soft.

I can gainer off a 1 meter diving board and backflip on skis and a backflip on skis is without a doubt much easier because you have your forward and upward momentum going off the jump and the angle of the jump to help you around.

i did that my first 2 times and i landed on my face and got fucked up. (i committed fully) like bcl said throw your hips and arms forward and always look for your landing.
