Meh, they're not my thing. The whole MIA, Passion Pit style of music is very hipster in my opinion. Very flash in the pan.

Your comparing MIA and Passion Pit? Thats like comparing Biggie and Billy Joel..? Hipster? I can see that, but thats no reason to dislike something. Its like saying I dont like rap cause blacks do..just doesnt add up.

Oh and all these people keep voting but my votes arent going up, except for cdh009 and Jordan L., the rest are all facebook friends.

I view them in the same category, because they classify themselves in an "indie" or alternative genre, but also because they're music is very watered down for hipster consumption. It's a triumph of form over substance. There is very little real emotion, terrible lyrics, and it's marketed to a certain crowd. It's just pretty noises for uncomplicated people - which is fine. I get off to the occasional dubstep or electro mix, sometimes the occasional pop song (California gurls is my guilty fave right now), but in the end they'll be gone in a year or two from the public eye.

Hipster bands. Just like Antlers, St. Vincent, Ben Folds, Clap Your hands say Yeah, Wavves etc.

All of your complaints seem very subjective, and extremely characteristic of all types of music, even those with substance. Id love to hear what you consider lyrically and emotionally substantial.

Also, take back what you said about the antlers! Haha

Lol I don't claim to be the overwhelming authority on music, but I can usually recognize when something's there or where others can improve. Again, these are just my personal philosophies and opinions about music.

What do I consider lyrically and emotionally substantial? Elliott Smith, Bob Dylan, Jeff Buckley, Neutral Milk Hotel, The Kinks, Radiohead, Sparklehorse, Beatles...

It's whatever sparks my interest. Jeff Buckley and Elliott Smith are my all-time favorites. Others I find have great music (Sigur Ros, Rilo Kiley, Rufus Wainwright + Loudon Wainwright, Animal Collective, the National, Regina Spektor), but they don't really have the full package going on.

If I had a rating system, there would be an A tier (and sub-tiers of that category), and a B tier (and sub tiers of that category). I listen to what I consider A tier bands nauseatingly frequently, and B tier infrequently, but I still enjoy it.

Ha wasnt implying I felt you were, just curious. What I find ironically funny is that you consider groups like the antlers as hipster, yet dont consider animal collective as such.

 Im fairly sure that Elliot Smith was born with the ability to directly speak to peoples hearts. Also, the Kinks? lol. But I do agree completely with B -tiering groups like the National.

Oh i make no mistake that Animal Collective is hipster. Most of those bands in the B tier I consider hipster.

Also hipster: Antlers, grizzly bear, Pavement, Wilco, Deer Tick, etc.

The list goes on. I don't want to keep it going for fear of name dropping. And I'll take back what I said about Antlers (i only say that because Pitchfork has ruined them for me by equating them with Jeff Buckley) if you start listening to the Kinks. Honestly. Waterloo Sunset is beautiful. Arthur and the Decline, Village Green.... good shit.

I remember when passion pit and phoenix were at the bottom of the bill at festivals. In a year or two, they blew the fuck up. I guess it's good though. Shows that bands at the bottom can rise up to headline slots.

I can't say if hipsters like them or not because I'm not as in with the crowd as you are. They've grown pretty huge in the festivals scene for a long time and those are the people that really contributed to their success.
