Not a lot of info out there on Schizos. Anyone got anything good/bad to say about their durability? I thought the idea was a bit lame last year but turns out this could be pretty useful for me this winter. If it's going to hold up. Jester Demos are another option I'm considering, might be more solid than the Schizo's cable system.
I'm pretty sure the cable keeps the heel on because the heel track doesn't have any teeth on it - it's just a smooth track. How else would the heel slide back when you turn only one screw at the front? Whereas the demo has a notched track on the toe and the heel.
I'll look at some this week in the flesh, it's like a year since I looked at them.
So I checked out a 10/11 pair of Schizos today mounted on a Revival. There's a spacer under the toe in the new versions that will stop the cable unhooking itself (as has been reported online) but it's the link between the front and rear metal bars in the middle of the binding that seems sketchy still. There's a tiny screw (about 5mm long with 1.5 effective threads) that joins the metal bars. All that's really holding the heel on is the notches on the metal bars but the notches are pressed together with that tiny screw. If the screw was to come undone, the heel could slide off pretty easily. It does just look like a standard binding screw though and could probably be replaced with a longer one.
I've heard from a few people that the 09/10 Schizo could shift forward or back on heavy landings (as much as a few cm) but that may have been addressed in the 10/11 version whose toe clicks as you adjust it now. Who knows. Schmies?
Pep used them on his Kung Fujas and said he had no problem on them as of last spring. We went to Chile in August and he was still skiing the same pair.
I had no problems with mine on a pair of Fujas sticks all this past year. If you are not convinced, just go with some regular Jesters.
they suck. mine would slide back on me after one run whenever i skied them. i wanted them all the way forward for park and after a run they were back 3cm from forward. awful. i sent that pair back and they sent me a new one three months later and those did the exact same thing. i was very unhappy.
i really dont know much about bindings in general but i met a marker rep so now im deciding between jester schizo or just the jester is the schizo really worth extra?
i had them this past season and they worked perfect for me. griffon schizos broke in half the second day i had them, the jesters were great the rest of the season though
