mounting bindings yourself

I got some crap skis for summer jibbing and was wondering if there is anything special I needed to do to remount the toepiece besides just lining up the holes and drilling. any advice?

my advice, if u have to ask advice on how to mount bindings, u dont wanna do it

you have to perfectly align the holes, and im talking PERFECT

if you freehand drill, you have to worry about drilling TOO FAR, or not far enough so they DONT rip out

without a jig, mounting is a major pain in the ass

You need a jig, if you dont have one, I suggest dont even mounting them yourself.

if you have the jig and the proper drill bits you can mount skis with your eyes closed

but since you had to ask im assuming you have no clue how to mount skis

there are alot of things you can fuck up on

so i suggest taking them to a shop

You dont really NEED a jig, you can free drill it, or trace the pattern of the bindings onto the ski, make sure its centered, and the right width for your boots. Plus, make sure you have the right bit size, and if theres metal you need to tap the holes, and make sure you dont drill through the ski as well, cuz thatd be bad...

while it is possible to freehand drill it (without a jig), it's hard to do if you've never done it before. plus you need the right bits and shit. so i like the idea that you take pics to show us when you fuck it up

i am currently employed as a ski tech, and i advise you to not do this yourself. i've drilled 100s of skis in the past month alone... and i wouldn't want to do even crap skis totally by hand at home.

as its been said, it is easy to freehand drill skis. I do it really often, but you are probably unable to count far enough to count how many skis ive drilled in my life.

a lot of moron were just saying how possible it is. the goal being to give you advice, not telling How good i am, i would just say, dont do it. they are crap ski, but they are still your skis for the summer. take them to a store. if you would see the stupid questions on the test they make to certified the technician, you would understand that you should know your shit. In fact, ive probably mounted more skis than anyone in my region, and im not technically certified.

dude just do it. You don't have to do a fancy job or anything. Especially since it's just for summer jibbing right? Just put your boot in and guess where the toepiece goes and drill it in. I don't see any problem with that. It's not like you're actually gonna be skiing with these.

naw, dont do it, just bring it to a shop with a six pack in hand and it will be done in 5 minutes. I work at a shop and mount skis all the time, and I wont lie to you i have mounted many freehand (no jig). Weather it be that the binding is not one that we carry and dont have the jig for, or that the ski is to fat to use a jig you gotta freehand every once in a while. YET, I do this shit for a living, and know what the fuck is going on when that bit hits the topsheet. dont stress it and get someone trained to do it.

i did it once by setting up the binding and then marking the hole spots with the drill, but it was one of those old school hand crank drills, so that made it easier. just be careful you dont go through.

yeah, it would be nice to mount your own. I've had to get bindings mounted so many times I know all the guys down at my shop by their first name...

if your good with a drill and have bit it can be done... ive done it... i wouldnt do it on regular skis... but ones for urban i would again... just make sure ur good with drill and u wont need jig....

ive mounted 3 pairs of skis. my 720s, crappy old rossis, and my sisters 1080s(brand new). ive never had any experience, and they came out pretty ok. just do it carefully

not really a total newbie, but i lost all my posts, and ya, I left newschoolers for a while

just do it yourself, i have mounted skis myself that I skied with and it's really not hard, and if you are just using them for fucking around it won't be a problem

What the hell are they charging you? Where I am, it'd be cheaper just to pay to get them mounted than to buy a 6 pack. 6 pack's like 13 bux, mounting's 10. But my shop is cheap, they p-texed my base gouges for 5$. Maybe this is why.

ha, thats funny, here at stratton were 39 for mounting and testing, and our competitors are 45! but that rate is strictly for those who want to pay it, most of the time mounts go out the door for 20 bucks, or free if you buy at least on piece of the set up ( skis or bindings)

That's Canadian funds, but yeah it seriously is about 13 bucks for a 6er of just about anything good. It's a bit cheaper for Molson since it's brewed like 30 mins away. I miss BEER brand beer... 30 unlabeled bottles of ubercheapness for 10 bucks.

yeah mounting skis is actualy easy if you just mark on the drill bit how deep you need to go and aren't a complete moron you can pull it off. its just that most people are fuckin dumb. I'm remounting my PEs and epoxying them in so they don't rip out this time , stupid fuckin shop can't even mount skis right
