Newschoolers can be spotted bylooking for some distinct features including wearing xl to xxxxxxl tall tees,listening to rap music, and usually wearing a tall condom style beanie anytimeof the year, including summer. These traits don’t apply to all newschoolers butthis is just a simple outline of the newschooler lifestyle.
Thelevel of talent and dedication newschoolers put into skiing allows for thesport to progress constantly. Soon after the first successfully marketed twintip ski hit the market skiers started to “hit” jumps and rails switch.Today newschoolers are throwing everything from 1’s to rodeo 9’s ; evendouble-flips are quickly emerging as the tricks to learn. The level of skilland style newschoolers exhibit on rails can easily prove the amount ofprogression occurring in the sport. Skiers are spinning 270 degrees draggingone ski and spinning off 270 the opposite way, all on handrails that you or thegeneral population would see as an aid for walking up stairs. To truly describeeverything currently happening in the skiing world would take up page after pageof information.
Thefuture of Newschool skiing at this time looks bright and bluebird. Events andcompetitions are springing up all over the country, ranging from rail jams, bigair, slopestyle,
Half-pipe, and even online videocontests. The direction most newschoolers hope to see the sport staying withinthe boundaries it’s at as far as double-flips, since that would move the sportone step closer to its sister sport aerial skiing which is featured in theOlympics. Newschoolers like controlled and smooth looking tricks usuallycombined with a grab. The smooth style and controlled vibe during and after atrick is done is what makes newschool skiing what it is and what it willhopefully stay.
Newschoolskiing is quickly gaining popularity and gaining many new followers tohopefully help progress the sport further when others can’t. The sport willlive on as long as there is snow and someone willing to push themselves to whatthey didn’t think possible on a pair of skis. When current newschoolers areconsidered oldschoolers at least we can have the satisfaction of knowing wewere oldschoolers that helped spark a new generation of newschoolers with acompletely different style, that will surpass the limits we now wouldn’t dareto cross. In the words of Warren Miller “Skiing can take you anywhere yourcourage or your stupidity will take you”.
