Ok so looking at getting the Surface One lifes with the 3 stage rocker. What Im a bit concerned about though is washing out and crashing hard when dropping cliffs with these things since I tend to land in the back seat. Im also worried about switch landings with these. Does anyone have any experience with these 3 stage rocker skis? It seems like there is almost less surface area to land on because of its shape.
It will take you a bit to get used to them- you might eat shit once or twice but you get used to it quickly. I have hellbents and the first day I skied them I hit a few drops into about a foot or so of fresh. Landing forwards was no problem for me, but the first time I 180d a cliff I found my face drowning in powder. I basically nose buttered the landing to my face. Just be aware the you can land more centered both forwards and switch compared to normal skis.
punch your arms forward in the air and bring your knees up to your chest. the hands forward helps your body get forward. if you flail around you're gonna fall backwards
i skied all last season on a pair of one lifes. I had no problem dropping cliff, hitting jumps or doing any other sort of maneuver. Just peep all my pictures, and you'll see i had no problem.
3 stage rocker feels like any other rocker when you're in pow, other than it not gliding in and out of turns quite as smoothly. It's a LITTLE more poppy than normal rocker. But on cliffs, it feels like any other pow jib ski with tail rocker, and the stiffness and bit of camber(one lifes, LL2s were different skis and not as well made) actually keeps you from washing out pretty well, compared to something like bents..
one lifes kill it on cliffs..you can land really centered..they pop up super fast if its a deep day..oh and they are actually stiff enough that you dont wheelie out all the time..
Great cliff ski, my favorite for trees. What I like about them is that they allow you to lean forward in powder, which is how you should be skiing in the first place. If you keep your weight over the balls of your feet at all times, you can ski anything.
