400k is more like star mazda prices. once you include pre season testing and everything, its going to cost 1,000,000 for a winning lights team.

and its funny Sato said US drivers are shit, since he gets his ass kicked nearly every race by them. its a surprise when that guy even finishes. just watch in the next couple years we are going to have some amazing American drivers coming up.

Belardi doesn't win but they get good finishes and they told me no more than 400K unless you total the car. That includes everything.

Sato's been quick and Indy cars are tricky cars to drive as they are quite large. And when you say AMAZING who are you talking about? Amazing to US standards or amazing to world standards. I'd be willing to bet almost any F1 driver could be faster than American drivers.

To the guy saying he'd like to run a quicker lap time than me in my own car. I don't live in Ohio anymore, Tokyo is now where I reside since I am now a factory Toyota GT car driver. So if you want to come here and race me go for it.

just sayin, lights teams doing pay their drivers way, they may give them a deal if they happen to be really good. but paying for the season is pretty much unheard of, thats how an indly lights team makes money, dirvers pay them to race their cars. thats just how it works, i could maybe see them helping with setting up a sponsor, but thats about it.

but if you are telling the truth and somehow you really did get an almost paid season in indy lights then your insane to pass that up.

and i wasnt saying your evo is non-existent, i was saying you have no competition if all your doing is an open track day, where atleast shintastic has a lot of good competition in skip barber.

and shintastic, sorry but skip barber is not a professional race series. sure theres a ton of great talent, but if your not making money, or atleast dont have the possibility to make money in the series, its hard for me to consider it professional.

Yeah, I was given the opportunity to get a scholarship with Toyota and they thought I was good enough. So yeah, I've been to most of the more heard of tracks here in Japan already. Fuji, Motegi, Tsukuba and Okayama. Next year i'll be in FCJ. Which is Formula Renault chassis with a nissan engine in it. Then Formula 3, Formula Nippon and then on to Super GT.

YES. i have one and it rips. it has a cr125 6spd custom trans and has a 0-60 of about 3.5 seconds and tops out around 125ish on a good day

hey schools not a bad decision long term, finish college, start racing again and you got a lot of knowledge that will help like crazy for finding sponsors, there seems to be a lot of college educated drivers out there doing really well. or make a shit ton of money doing whatever and be able to do whatever the hell you want.

theres a few upcoming formula car drivers in the US who should be pretty impressive, daly, newgarden, rossi, some of the guys in star mazda and usf2000. daly has been doing well in gp3, he's shown he can easily compete in the top 5, in his first season in europe, first time at tracks his competition has years of experience on, and he spent the earlier part of the year going back and forth between gp3 and indy lights, which hurt him early in the season. in the next year or two he's gonna be kicking some ass for sure.

the americans in indy car right now i dont think are very "complete" drivers. marco, rahal and some of the americans in indy car right now moved up wayyy too fast, not spending enough time setting a good foundation in the lower formula car ranks. i think a lot of the drivers now are realizing its kinda stupid to try to be the youngest driver in indy car, and spending more time developing, and developing at an older age where you learn more effectively.

just watch the next 5 years or so and i think you will see a lot of american drivers at the top of indy car, and i really think you will be seeing some in F1, we actually have a really good ladder system now that should develop much better drivers. its not quite the mess it was even a couple years ago.

are you set on racing in japan? just curious as to what its like there, compared to the US atleast. i talked to someone who spent some time in formula 3 there and he had kinda mixed thoughts about it.

Yeah see i'm good friends with both Conor and Josef. I've also known them since they started in karting about a year before I did. Conor is doing quite well in Europe, his name will help him along the way too. But I've heard from a few people that he's definitely not Formula 1 material. But who knows really. Josef, I feel is the better of the two both on and off the track. But he ran out of oportunities in Europe despite dominating Formula Ford Euro series and doing well in Italian Formula Renault. So now he's back here where it is "easier." Both are exceptionally nice kids and I hope both make it.

Infact I was speaking with Josef a few days ago.

The reason I've come to Japan for there ladder system is because in America it may not look like a bad ladder system but everyone you talk to around the paddock says it's horrible. No credibility, the jump from USF 2000 to Star Mazda is pointless because the star mazda's are no quicker handling wise, Star Mazda and Indy Lights are the same price, and the big one, Competition is not high.

To me taking a full time college schedule rather than a full time racing schedule is stupid. In racing you can only be in the job for a certain amount of time. Your window is very short and you have to have all the focus and determination possible to do that. Maybe taking a business/communications class hear and there won't hurt. Why would you take college, skip 4 years or more of your chance to become a race car driver? It make no sense IMO. You can go to college whenever you want, you can't become a payed race car driver whenever you want. Should be a no brainer.

And yeah Super GT is really badass. Basically i'm a TOMS Toyota Y.D.P. driver. It's the same exact system that Kazuki Nakajima and Kamui Kobayashi have come through in the past. I know Richard and i've met his brother (?) whom which I don't remember his name. I think to benefit from the Japanese ladder system you really have to act Japanese and be really good. All of my coaches from TOMS said the biggest mistake that most foreigners that come to Japan to race expect to live and act like an American or European. In Japan that is a big no. The way the Japanese culture is, you have to be extremely respectful and diligent. Most Americans lack both of those, especially the younger generations. As long as you are able to fit in and be funny while being fast you have a good shot at making it in Japan. It's not like America where you have to be super rich and that's about it.

Dude, good for you and I'm honestly happy you followed your dream path, but you sound like a huge dick and that's unfortunate. So what if Wikki wanted to go the smart route instead of the fun route? Hell, I did it too. Some of us don't have the luxury to just say fuck it and just race cars, man. Way to be a tool about it though, that's cool.

We all love cars. Try being humble about it and recognize something in your life must have allowed you to do this, and that you didn't honestly do it all by yourself. Perhaps if Wikis life was more priveleged he could do the same. I hope you can maybe tone down the douchiness because I'm stoked to hear things from your perspective, but not if it revolves around shitting on everyone else less fortunate than yourself.

Yeah, i've had a recent break up with a long term relationship so i've been a bit of a douche the past few weeks or so. sorry about that. I never stated that Wikki's route was the "wrong" route. I just said that IMO it is stupid. For me taking a "smart" route would be a waste of time. Although I have opted to do college at the same time as racing but will definitely drop college if anything big comes up. To me, that something in my life that made me race cars was me. I like to call it Will Power. I don't come from a rich family and i've had to pay for much of my early karting years. In no way have I done it all by myself. I've had some great coaches and fantastic sponsors and friends to work with. But at the end of the day there's still only one person driving the car, they still have to do well, during a race it's the drivers responsibility to make sure the car finishes well. To me, saying that I was "shitting" on everyone isn't really correct. This is a forum, where you voice your opinions. I voiced my opinion, which was different then everyone else in this thread I suppose. Pretty sure I can practice my 1st amendment on the Internet. I still think most of these cars are stupid, and will stand by that.
