Snowmobile

A friend and I are looking into getting a snowmobile. It will be used to access sweet lines, hitting booters and accessing areas, setting up a basecamp and then skinning to peaks etc. from there.


I know nothing about sleds really, done some reading here http://www.tetongravity.com/forums/showthread.php?t=174128&highlight=snowmobile
seems like we want a pretty long track and light if possible.


Also is it stupid to go out with one snowmobile? I've heard to always go with to, but thats not exactly possible for us. Do they break down often?


So what characteristics/models etc. should I be looking at? Where is a good place to purchase them? anything other then craigslist?


Also hoping it would fit in the back of a truck, but could possibly get a trailer to.


Looking to spend around $2000, less is of course always better but could have some more people chip in and go over if needed to.

Would best to get one in the Cali area, but somewhere between cali and Seattle would work to.

Dont go out on 1 sled ever, unless you like hiking a long way home,  and esspecially if you are spending 2 g's.  your sled will be a piece of shit for 2 g's.  I recomend a 2005 or better ski-doo summit 800 with a minimum of a 144 track,  id go with a 151,  for sled skiing especially, sometimes you goda get up some gnarly shit so that you can go down some gnarly shit. 

As for a trailer, they work but they are a huge bitch,  its way easier and less hassel to get a pick up.

if your just getting into sledding just go for whats cheap for now and step it up in a few years... i would say look for a long/wide track sled that is fairly light.. im more into gromed sledding because thats all that i can do but start small

Minimum a 151 track, and its going to cost about double that... sleds are expensive.
