Yesterday night most of the Quebec Extreme sports industry was reunited at the skate park Taz for the Gala Maestro. In different categories , several ski related people got awarded .

.I appreciate your opinion on this. This is actually a good exemple of what people are led to know about what we do and what we offer. Let me clarify this for you.
Girlsonskis has now 7 official rider, those riders are chosen from around the world because we found that they had a certain talent and we think that they will progress in the near future. They also inspire other girls to start skiing and may be in a couple of years, there will be a lot more girls in the industry and therefore more talent.
These 7 chosen riders get to have financial help, we know that to be able to combine work, school and skiing is very hard. We pay them competition fees for them to attend contest and we finance their trip. Our latest was for Devin Logan who recently finished third at the Nz Junior Olympics slopestyle. Without the help of several donators,she couldve never been there because Nz is very expensive.

There is also a very inspiring story behind this.
The Owner , Gabriele St-Georges , wrote this to a girl, not so long ago , in hopes of helping her in recovery.

Well I have a nice story to tell you that might inspire you.
I was born with a 24 and 17 curbes  scoliosis, normally people with these need surgery.Unluckily my parents didnt know what was wrong with me and didnt care too much and never made me see a doctor.

On most of all my child photos you can actually see my head sitting on my shoulder due to the curv.
I lived a normal kid life picked up soccer and skiing at young age, I started to race at 12 and that lasted until I was 16. At age 17 ,which was 2 years ago I started to experience intense back pain, bleedings and i was hospitalised several time for lobarian sprain, torn ligaments. I would wake up in the middle of the night without being able to move or breath because I would be hurt so much.

 Doctors did scans on my back and discovered my scoliosis, I was torn apart when my mom told me she knew about it all allong. She didnt want to face it too, she had no idea it was that important when she first saw it.
 
I had to give up most of the sports I did ( I was playing for the champlain cavaliers in soccer ), took a lot of pain killers but there was nothing really that could be done more than that.
At age 17 your back is almost fully grown and since I grew within the years the degrees of the curves decreased, in a way that I dont necessarely need to get surgery anymore, If I do, I face around 2 years of rehab, learning how to walk and wont prob get any chance to do any sports for the rest of my life.

After that, I was so depressed , I think I watched all the movies that exist on this planet. It became my own drug.
Last year, I was studying in Champlain College in arts and I got in a car accident. Women ran into me at 70kmh and I injured my back pretty bad. I was in the hospital for some time and on deep medication.
 Shortly I got out of there,I visited my doctor for a normal visit to check up my neck and she told me, <<you know, you dont need to keep you away from the things you love, your young, you only have one life >>
I never believed that the words that I needed wouldve came up from a doctor, since the last few years healt was the thing that kept me from doing the things I like.
Shortly after that I started skiing and cought the hang of it. But everytime I went back from each session I  started to feel pain, really intense pain, sometimes I would even not be able to walk the next day and it happend 2 times that I needed to get blood drained from my back.
Last September doctor told me I should stop, that I was ruinning my chances of being able to even play with my kids when I would be older. Well Thats when I started Girlsonskis, I lost the happyness I got from skiing, but I got it back when I saw the girls having fun just like I did. When i saw them improving and when they thanked me for what I was doing for them ( helping them built promos, advertise them, email sponsors, find money to finance their trips) it replaced for instance that joy I had from sliding a box or just jumping on side booters. I still skied a couple of times and I still got hospitalised 2 times this years but I learned something really important, You hurt because your alive!
Now your lucky your coming back on skis after all! You need to be positive and work on something. My thing was movies, you can pick up a music instrument, start drawing, start making hats or anything. Training your brain into not doing anything will just keep you down and watching ski edits will make it also worst, because all you want to do is ski right, Get out of your house, take a class. You have time for it.
You can do it, everybody do ! Never give up !
Just take it
One day at a time :)

Now, after this. If you still think that what we do doesnt apply for winning an award I will take your word for it. But I think Gabriele and the team we have will never give up on that project. So far, we have been having the fun of our lifes and it is for some of us a life changing experience.

girls in skiing have to step it up and everyone knows it. Women's gymnastic is almost as good as men's gymnastic...i feel that skiing should be the same.

Seriously?

Every time that someone posts anything related to females skiing on this forum, the inevitable hatestorm is not far behind. What is the point? Are you all scared that girls might show you up? Is your honor or self esteem at stake if, god forbid, a few shredder chicks get together and can support each other in contests and otherwise?

I'm done with the negativity towards girls trying to have fun on skis. May all you insecure jackasses have difficulty getting laid for the rest of your lives.

It has nothing to do with them "showing me up" its just this organization has seemed like such a joke to me since it started. Its a bunch of girls getting trips paid for around the country and they don't accomplish anything. Sure they're having fun but they're trying to hype it way too hard.

oh but its ok for us to hate on other guys? i dont understand that at all, girls can make fun of guys as much as they want, but the min a guy cracks a kitchen joke all hell brakes loose. If the world is moving towards gender equality, then we should be able to make fun of who ever we want, when ever we want, its only fair. Sure some people may seem to think that we are directly targeting the girls them self, but from my point(and probably evan's) the comments are more directed at the skiing/hype of the whole project. Why should we by hyped up about some shitty box slides and un grabbed spins? Sure you can say "oh well they are girls, they cant do any better", well why the fuck not? Girls ski racing is on almost the same level as guys, same with soccer and gymnastics, so why not park skiing? If girls like Ingrid Backstrom can send good sized cliffs and shred with the guys in AK, why cant these girls ski better in park? IMHO girlsonskis is a joke and a waste of money, sure its all about having fun, but why try to hype of shitty skiing? If a guy was making these edits, he would get flamed off ns, but because it's a girl we have to play nice? fuck that

I don't know why your hating on girls on skis so much and saying most of us can't ski. Last time I checked we are hitting all the same features and jumps as the boys no "skier slide flat boxes". We might not be doing dubs but were having a hell of a good time progressing and if that's a problem with you then leave our group alone. It's assholes like you that make us proud were just a group of girls and no guys. Were not asking for your negative words. Next years team is some of the best up coming girls that throw down more then 90% of girls that actually getting paid to ski. Also how can you jugde this company so much when it has only been around for one season?  Nothing is perfect at first. In time the edits will be pristine im sure, as the same with all the tricks featured. So stop acting like they have posted 20 videos and in all of them no tricks were done.  I've seen better tricks from most these am skiers then a good majority then professional women when it comes to edits. Im stoked for you ladies to win this award. that is all.

I understand the project and I think that's cool, but I know some really good girl riders just around Breck who could put up some awesome footage.  Frankly I just don't understand why most of the shots are of girls who are still just in their starting out stages when you could sponsor someone who could put up some serious points in a competition.

Does that make sense?  Some of the shots are great, but I think a sponsors money could be better spent on the more competitive girls in the group.  I guess after writing all that I have to retract my first statement of understanding the project.

i've seen the older vids...wasn't that impressed, but now i checked all the clips posted in the opening post...really dope...this time eheath ur completly wrong...i can see a lot of progress! and this seems like a good thing to push the female part of our sport...i remember some years ago when some girls ( franca frautschi+)tried the same with SKI CANDY GIRLS or something like this...maybe that was to early...now it's the right time! keep up the good work !

Not interested in the dramatic backstory, and the bottom line is that so far the girlsonskis project has yielded very little in the way of a "product" or tangible, well...anything. If the award was given on the strength of the edits that have come out over the past season and made their way to NS...well...there mustn't have been any other entrants.

Just because Heath and Thomas took shots at whether an award was warranted or not, doesn't mean that they were attacking girls in general, or whatever. There's a stupid oversensitivity when discussions about the state of girl's skiing comes up here. Any moron can plainly see that girls freeskiing is profoundly lagging behind the guys on pretty much every level—observing as much isn't "hating", it's a motherfucking fact.. As far as I can tell, the only real gap that this "project"(?) is narrowing is that of enthusiasm.

I WILL say that the few edits posted midway down this page were impressive, if annoying in their similarity to other teenybop SAGA clad child edits that just so happen to feature the spinny flippiness of boys more often than not.

As I re-read the OP and the overly long and wrought sob story, I realized that this Girlsonskis thing isn't but another "ski crew", but some sort of venture to enable girl skiers to compete and travel...? Or something...

Anyway, I'll say then that girlsonskis biggest failure hasn't been producing underwhelming ski edits, but rather in informing people what it is that they actually do. Talk about convoluted. Can I get a 50 word or less description of just what the fuck Girls on Skis is?

girls on skis makes me somewhat wish i was a girl. id love to get paid for my average skiing and go visit comps everywhere. Its a great idea but so far for me they are yet to turn out anything meaningfull in the way of results that make me say omg girls skiing is legit. I can say i want to solve world hunger and thats great but i shouldnt be a hero for that. I would be a hero if i was able to solve world hunger. When girls on skis is able to make girl freestyle skiing look more legit and comparable to guys skiing THAT is when i think they should start getting awards. great idea which so far has not been a success

hating on girls who ski is stupid, it really is. I have MUCH respect for kim, kaya, jen crichton, amé fortin, edwina and such. Not a big fan of "girl on skis", especially Gab St Georges.

I may have overreacted, but I'm sick of the negativity.

People here keep talking about how the female ski world needs to "step up" to the level of the dudes. This doesn't make sense. No one is sitting around telling Lolo Farve, Collin Collins, Witt Foster, or Evan Williams to start doing doubles in order to keep pace with other male skiers. No one is telling Hoji or Abma to make better urban segments. When asked why they dress in sizes that run past their knees or flash gangish signs, most skiers say that it's a style that they like and people shouldn't read into or criticize them for it.

These examples illustrate that we should respect people for doing what they're doing and celebrate the fact that we're able to share this wondrous addiction called skiing. No one is asking male pros to change they way they ski to fit in with the rest of their peers, and that's because there's value in the diversity of skiing styles and abilities and we recognize this. Somehow, when it comes to females clicking in, this diversity or difference in ability levels becomes a weakness worth criticizing and belittling.

NS blindly follows "progression" and "difficulty" as if they are the only things worth judging skiers on or the only things worth being inspired by. Learning and/or the thrill of pulling a hard trick or line are great, but the fun and togetherness that skiing inspires are worth more. Once people who ski "for the fun of it" wake up and recognize this difference, maybe attitudes will change about women's skiing.

no one would be hating on "girlsonskis" if it wasn't for her making the same thread every week to check out their shit. Also it doesn't help that she takes every ill-comment personally and proceeds to write up a huge justification that makes her sound like a 16 year old.
