i used to be into computer when i built mine, it was obviously custom and top of th eline during it's day like 6 years ago, but now i could build the exact same computer for the price i spent alone on the video card almost...
photography and cinematography are my new hobbies, and although i didnt buy my current 7D, i hate how fast technology advances...i was hoping to have this thing for at least 5 years which i hopefully will but i KNOW something epic will come out within the next 2 years blowing this away...if Canon just came out with the 60D then that buys me some time haha
yea, on my rig, I need a screen that articulates out to the left of the body but won't be able to fit a 7" monitor. Having higher fps for photos will be nice, tougher body, separate iso button and better button layout, and hopefully it has better noise charts when compared to the t2i, although there won't be anything drastic. Manual audio's nice too.
I'm not impressed by the release of this camera by Canon. They've been attempting to get the XXD line of cameras out of the prosumer market and put the 7D as prosumer for a while. Since the 40D, they've progressively lowered the fps, even still with 9afp which baffles me. Then the fact that the articulating screen is no real use for a prosumer/pro photographer. And then the MP's on this don't really matter because I doubt anyone is going to be blowing up these images more than 4 ft, so even if you pixel peeked, you wouldn't be able to find a difference.
I haven't looked too much into the T2i and this camera, but especially for video, it doesn't seem like that much of an upgrade other than the tilting screen. I heard rumors about this camera being able to shoot 1080 60p, and I'm kind of dissapointed.
I see this 200 dollar upgrade to be worth trying to figure out a monitor problem and getting better onboard audio (i'm getting an external recorder, but for skiing it might not be worth all the syncing in post)
yes so that's makes the 50D trash....
If you want to film the 60D is a dissapointment IMO. It isn't as impressive as the t2i or the 7D price wise and it's a downgrade from the 50D.
im deciding on weather i should get a t2i or a 60d, i will be using it for filming but also a little bit of taking pics, i like the idea of the swivvle screen and the 5.7 fps. but what is the differnce filming wise?
so its better... how come people are bitching then?
its 200 extra bucks you get 5.7 fps and swivvle screen that sounds dope. my friend also just told me you can adjust the grip or sum shit
yea but its an upgrade from a t2i the 7d is $1530 and the 60d will be around $1100 I have like 850 ish right now So i will need alot more. I guess from the 50d to the 60d its a downgrade but t2i to 60d is an upgrade I guess
I think the 60D is inferior because of the flip out LCD. Built-in LCDs are nice because you can at least attach a nice viewfinder to assist for focusing/stabilization. With the flip-out LCD, you're stuck looking at the screen, or using a cumbersome external monitor. There is no convenient middle option (viewfinder), and I don't see how anybody could engineer a device that would serve the same function of a viewfinder because flip out LCDs are very flimsy and un-durable.
Manual audio isn't worth the upgrade either, in my opinion. If you want quality audio, you record it separately.
The only upgrade I see is the SLIGHTLY better body build, but even that isn't too impressive.
I'm actually kind of mad that Canon spent their time making the 60D instead of fixing the current problems with their potentially amazing 7D and 5D.
lcdvf and other loupes use a magnetic frame that can attach around that. It could get annoying to remove it every time if you want to fold the lcd in, but thats what velcro is for. But yes the build definitely could be better.
I do like having the idea of being able to turn the lcd around and protect it and shut it off when not in use.
That seems ridiculous since that would cause you to put pressure on a weak hinge. Having an LCD on a hinge in the first place is a huge fail in my book. This is what Canon spent their time working on? Mediocre upgrades to an entry-level camera instead of adding much needed solutions to their higher end DSLRs...
I think that people are just sour that this new release wasn't a 5dmkIII or a 1d.
Little bummed about the build of the body, but then again...
(watch video)
just sayin'..
Back to the camera, sure there's a few aspects to the 60D that seem like a downgrade from the 50D, and yes I'm scratching my head at it too. Fewer FPS? Why? Either way, the 60D will still produce great pictures like any other camera. It also so happens to fall into my path as a purchaser. My XTi has just recently broke and I want to upgrade. I definitely don't have a lot of cash, but I want a new camera, especially one with the video. In the current Canon line up this leaves me t2i and 7D. Fuck T2i, I definitely don't want another Rebel. 7D, yes. Yes I want the 7D, but I'm going to be strapped on cash this year if I want to ski all winter. The 60D settles right into what I want, a high quality camera with features that I want and will use that is (kind of) reasonably priced. It's for that reason that I'll be looking into getting the 60D. All you tech jocks and fuck off, a camera is a camera.
Well said man! This is exactly how I feel about it as well, and I'm sure you're making the right call on the camera. Hopefully I can get my hands on one asap. When's the official release date, did they say?
Oh, and does anyone know if it will have intermediate ISOs? I'd think for a xxD line camera it would, but I don't know the 50D that well.
