hey whats up people, i need your help here. a couple of weeks ago i sent an email to our ski basin trying to convince them to put in a terrain park, today they finally responded to me. both the emails are pasted below, what i need is more reasons why they should put one in, and rebuttels to what they said. here they are:
(Mine to them)
Hey, why are you guys holding out on building a terrain park? Is
it money, insurance or just not enough snow? I personally know a huge
amount of people that would love to have a terrain park, even to the
point that if it were required of us we would pitch in the time to
build/maintain it. Anyway what you have to realize is that Santa Fe
does breed great freestyle skiers, but they have to travel to other
basins, and do so quite alot, to practice their favorite aspect of
skiing. I have a friend who put his teeth through his lip on a 20 foot
cliff in a roped off area, he actually had to ski down the entire
mountain with his teeth bent 90 degrees and through his upper lip so
that the ski basin wouldnt take away his pass for skiing out of bounds.
You must be aware of the injuries that are constantly occuring on the
cliffs, places that would not be frequented near to as much if their
were organized jumps and for people to go to. If you build a nice park,
it could become a great asset, drawing in more of the youth crowd, which
will be the future of skiing. A park could even be andvantagous for the
amount of snow Santa Fe gets every year, if the park was towards the
bottom of the mountain, snow machines could be blowing onto it, keeping
it skiable for easily longer than the upper mountain, the currently only
part freestyle skiing can even happen. You would be surprised how many
people would be content to spend their entire day skiing at a terrain
park, I would be one of those people. If you don't believe the market
for such a place, I could easily organize a petition of people who would
be willing to donate time/money to make it a reality. Can't wait to
here back from you.

Chris, thanks for your e-mail. Several years ago Ski Santa Fe
experimented
with a several versions of terrain parks with limited success. Two main
issues are driving our current decision not to build a terrain park and
those are lack of water and liability insurance. As you are well a wear
we
are in the midst of a drought in New Mexico and coming off several
marginal
snow years, the bulk of our snowmaking efforts have been focused on
keeping
the trail open for all segments of clientele. Ski Santa Fe simply does
not
have one extra drop of water to commit to a park. National data tells
us
that approximately 5% of skiers and snowboarders use terrain parks in
the
US. Interpolating that data to Ski Santa Fe, tied in with our limited
water
supply, we made the decision to make snow on the trails to service the
majority of our skiing and riding audience.
The second issue is liability insurance. Ski Santa has faced double
digit
increases in our insurance premiums in the last two years. In an effort
to
minimize future increases in insurance costs, we have identified areas
of
potential risk and attempted to minimize them. Our view is that the
mountain is your terrain park and skiers and snowboarder may do as they
wish
as long as you are following the guidelines set forth in the
Ski/Snowboard
Responsibility Code and statutes within the New Mexico Skiers Safety
Act.
I hope this answers your question, look forward to seeing you next year.
Michael Donovan, Director of Marketing and Sales.
ideas i already have include stuff like: how popular freestyle skiing is, having volunteers pre dig the jumps our of dirt, and somehow either argue the liability point or convince them the more people coming would make up for that. any help would be apreciated
