Pretty sure my subaru just shit the bed

RIP 04 outback, you'll be missed

can't seem to find the problem but when i drive a super loud claking noise occurs, like super loud. yes i've checked the oil, and a problem isn't found yet. probably the axles are shot and not even worth to be fixed

i'm really pissed off and will be carless, this fucking sucks.

Not worth it? An 04 Outback?

I have a 97 Legacy, and everytime I pour money into I say "it's not worth it, it's not going to last throughout the year" and it continues to surprise me.

Axles are super simple to do. I just did them and the timing belt on my 98 for under $150.

My outback shit the bed last year at 204K. The transmission was shot though. I would bring it to your local shop and see what the deal is. I still got 900 bones for my 02 so you could probably squeeze a couple dollars out of it at least.

Not really...It could be a number of things including which he has already said high mileage. But there can be numerous things in a car that will stop working where you cant justify fixing it for the worth of the car.

bad driving ? really ? i'm pretty sure im on the responsible side of drivers. i know how to operate my car and i know its capabilities, don't do anything to it but baby it. yeah sometimes ill use the 1,2,3 and shift becuase i hate automatic and can't stand not using a clutch, other wise i've taken it on a dirt road once or twice and drifted. no biggie, and that was awhile ago. but bad driver ? i don't believe so

Yeah -.- My '02 freelander's transmission just kicked the bucket and it's going to cost $4500 to repair. The car isn't worth even that much apparently.

Throw it on craigslist see what you can get and throw it on a down payment for your next car. A loan will most likely be required but youll have a nice car thatll be yours in 3+ years. I bought a 01 subaru impreza 2.5rs with 1300 down and 200 a month for 3 years. Not bad. A little extra something to build my credit and a nice car.

Just for the fun of it. Find an 03 subaru outback with hubcaps. I know there are few if any. Most all subarus from 99 and up come stock with rims.

Im a mechanic, maybe i can offer some insight. Maybe take a quick video of the noise youre talking about. Does the noise happen when youre driving or constantly? Its very hard to figure out what youre talking about without seeing or hearing the noise. I could most likely give you a good idea of whats wrong if you want to put a bit of effort in.

what do rotors have to do with hubcaps? all cars have rotors, they arent that hard to fix. it takes the same amount of effort weather you have hubcaps or regular ass wheels.

4500 is quite a bit for a transmission. brand new DSG transmissions from VW cost 6000... I cant see a standard auto transmission costing that much unless that includes labour aswell.

Well i don't know jack shit about cars, they could be trying to rip me off i guess. The sad thing is, it's got less than 100,000 miles on it, but with four or five sets of brakes, a new engine, and been in the shop for countless little annoying things.

$450 is not bad for labor. But I'd make sure that includes at least an OEM belt and a tensioner. I was quoted $425 for labor and tensioner on mine with axle and new CAT install.

Someone mentioned OP checking his hubcaps to see if someone put rocks in them, and the person you quoted pointed out that post-99 subarus don't have hubcaps

well since you decided to be a smartass, i'm selling this car to my brother most likely, hint why i'm not gonna put money into it. Also i'm not one of those kids that wants a wrx to have a wrx. i'm starting to race, and race my dads chevelle ss. i know a thing or 2 about cars and i want a wrx for the performance i can put into it to make it what iwant it to be.
