i just snagged about 40 rolls of somewhat expired color film, and a couple rolls of expired black and white tri-x, so hopefully i'll have some weird/interesting stuff up soon

anyone have experience with shooting expired film?

that's what those shots I posted were of.

I think that mostly you just need to push your exposure a little bit. I added 50% to my exposure time with those shots, but I'm not sure how old that film was. If it's only a year or so and it's been in a cool environment, then I probably would stick with the recommended exposure. If it's a couple years old and hasn't been kept well, maybe overexpose a stop or so.

If you have a bunch of the same type do a couple test shots on one roll. I found a couple camera shops a quick skate from my dorm, they have film and I get a student discount. Cool.

Still shoot a decent amount of film. After shooting digital for two months in Europe, I had to pick up the film camera as soon as I got back. Digital is so...cold.

Here is some stuff I recently shot in Norway:

Camera is a Canon AE-1 with a 50mm/f1.8 lens and an old polaroid filter.

Shot on Kodak 200 and 400 film aswell as some cheap random film from a local drug store (Germany)

Scanned the photos at my College, didn't scan the negatives though.

I must say the AE-1 is a really nice camera to shoot with. Kind of feels natural and the pictures are great!

Gotta redo this, either more blur or none. It's right near my dorm so it shall be done.

I don't get to develop my film cause I'm at college, and they probably wouldn't be too stoked on me developing it in my room. I asked the guy at the campus darkroom if I could use it and he's like no, you need to be in the class. Gotta figure out a way around that. There is a camera shop near me though, but I'd rather do it myself and not pay.

Also I got my print, 16x16 in, just need the right frame.

Apparently a frame of that size for a square print is hard to come by. I also did one without the train, and tried to use the dof scale to focus on the very start of the tracks while stopping down to like f11 I think. It almost worked, nothing seems to be in focus and you need to click it to see what I mean. Only the closest part, and even that's a bit softer than I wanted.

Sometimes it's not expensive. I got my yashica for 78 dollars shipped off eBay. It's the lumbar version that's supposed to have a better lens than the rest too. My friend recently got a full gassy set up, thats and a12 back, 80mm 2.8, waist level finder in working order for 15 dollars.

You can get nice TLR's pretty cheap, or you could step up to something like the RZ67 for $5-600. That'll probably be my next camera purchase.

I still love film. I have a Holga, canon elan 7e, canon AE-1, and a couple other random film cameras. I have a full darkroom set up in my basement that I don't use often but plan on doing some projects soon with it.

Medium format cameras are dirt cheap right now. You could get a full Bronica SQ-A setup for under 300 or an RB67. I'm definitely keeping an eye out for a Hassy setup.

Finally got a frame and mounted it. I had to get a 20x20 inch frame, the print is 16x16. I thought there would be too much space, but it actually looks pretty good. My freehand mount didn't come out too bad either.

Getting stuff printed is sick. I had to get a huge matte board and cut out a 20 by 20 square, then put the print in the center.
