Future ski bum wants to know where to go this winter

I'm pretty set on going somewhere in Utah or Jackson Hole, WY. I've heard excellent things about Alta, Snowbird, Brighton, Solitude and PC. I'm not a huge park skier though. Anybody who has skied in Utah I would really appreciate any information you have.

ski bums don't work in the winter...

I recommend the kootenays... ;)
red, whitewater, kootenay pass, revy, rodgers pass. soo much fun terrain, la nina snow year (good).

As for the resorts you listed it depends if you want to be skiing a lot of park or not because solitude does not have one and neither did alta the last time i was there. Also this past season brighton didn't have jumps but they have good rails. Outside of the park i would highly recomend alta or solitude skiing wise. I am from the east so pretty much any resort in utah seems sick to me but solitude is a bit smaller, i also think that it is more expensive, but the plus is that its usually pretty empty.

TAHOE. Tons of dope mountains, park to big mountain and awesome back country. No mormons. Close to the SF bay area for sick concerts and events, and everyone in Tahoe is wayy chill...you will meet a ton of ski bums!

and weeds gonna be legal in November so if you live on the north shore you can blaze up anytime which is absolutely essential for any ski bum....unless your a poser.

I skied Brighton, Solitude, and Park City this year.  Brighton and Solitude both had good quality backcountry although I've heard Alta and Snowbird are even better.  Park City was the most fun day of my life in the park.  So there's alot of cool places to ski in Utah.

Good luck paying bills not working in the winter. Thats for trust fund children. I work at Alta in the winter and its pretty dope. Salt Lake living is fairly cheap and the skiing is unbelievable. I would just pick a canyon little or big. You really cant go wrong in either one.

if you're fortunate enough to have a seasonal, decently paying job and can manage your money paying bills shouldn't be a problem.

And, you can find jobs, cheap housing and 3-5 really good mountains that are pretty different from one another (Kirkwood, Squaw, Alpine, Heavenly, etc).

But, UT is sick for super light pow. Live near park-shitty (for jobs and fun) and ski real mountains like Alta, Snow Bird, Canyons, etc. within a short drive.

Go to tahoe if you aren't completely set on utah/NM. in those places, if you're just looking for amazing terrain and not too much of a park, Alta.

ski vegas man, we got a good resort here, haha but i'd recommend powder mountian utah, and some other resorts around there, they got a good park and a shit load of powder

utah is sick there so many resorts and you can get a pass that works for them all but snowbird is the best i would have to say best snow gets so much off it some argue for alta but they are literlly the same you can ski from the top of the tram at snowbird right down a alta run and they also offer a pass for both resorts i would vote for snowbird because it has better life services but you dont need the pass that lets you use the tram theres a chair right next to it that i think is faster and you can get discount day tickets in a ski shop out side snowbird its right next to 7/11 i cant think of it ahhhh

dont go to summit county or CO in general, the snow blows
dont go to tahoe, the people there are fucking crazy, mammoth is chill but you said you weren't much of a park skier, but mammoth does have its pow days, thats for sure

go to hood or baker
go to utah, not park city area
or if you can get a job, whistler

Buckhorn is a madhouse sometimes from what i've heard. you can also get a upgrade pass to both alta and snowbird for 300. its well worth it if you are staying past april in slc and wanna keep gettin them turns.

plus snowbird has a tiny little park if you wanna satisfy your inner jibber

Powder just put on the November issue on "Top 20 Places to Ski Bum." Bozeman, Montana was number 1. I'd move there.

The Buck is definitely a mad house. Prepare your liver. It is in fact 300 bones to upgrade to the bird pass. Not really worth it unless you plan on living in the area after Alta closes. As an Alta employee you get 1 pass to Snowbird a week anyway. Alta has no park and Snowbirds is pathetic. The mountains are good enough so you wont even think about hitting a park.

you can ski down from the top or wildcat side of alta. the keyhole between alta and snowbird is where it's at on the dumping days.

snowbirds jumps pretty much suck. just start hitting cliffs and drops. there's plenty

Yea you can get to the bird at a couple spots. Keyhole being one of them but thats not open until a day or two after a storm most of the time. You can also drop into Mineral Basin from the top of Sugarloaf lift.

treeplanter/brusher. I have many friends who do the same, and other jobs. forest fire figher, painter, construction, fishing guide or deck hend, fishing guides, hunting guides, raft guides, commercial fishing boat. I'm sure there's more, I just can't think of it right now.


the best part for me is, I've done enough years of planting, I now can work close enough to home to come on weekends and work some weeks from home... a rarity in the seasonal work world
