Is the iPad really even worth buying?

I'm considering buying an iPad, but I'm not sure. I've heard alot of good things, and I've heard a lot of bad. Anyone have any advice? Thanks.

They are cool, but I'm sure other companies will make better, cheaper ones soon.  Just like the ipod, iphone, etc..

i'd get one if they were ALOT cheaper, $550 for a 16gb one is a little too expensive for what i think is basically a big iPod touch (i know they're obviously different though) imo.

wrong, if i'm not mistaking, it doesn't even have a jack entrance, so you can't use headphones/earphones .....

so it's basically less than an ipod...
