trying to decide on whether to get some STH 16 (possibly 14 driver) or Deadbolt 15. Skiing mostly big mtn /BC. anyone rode both? if not a list of some pros and cons would make me stoked
Both bindings are pretty much out of each company's race program, which means they are both durable, yet semi heavy bindings. And they've been around for a long time, so there aren't any design kinks that need to be worked out.
I tend not to like the toe piece on Tyrolias, but that's me...
Both very solid bindings. Two of the best bindings on the market really.
The deadbolt 15 (which is the same as the tyrolia peak/head mojo/amplid ect) is probably the best binding for its price on the market. It's an incarnation of a tyrolia race binding so has lots of metal, great retention, ect. It's probably my favourite binding after fks.
STH16's are also bomber. Not quite so much as the older 916, but it's a lot lighter, and is a good compromise of strength/weight ratio. Also has toe height/toe wing adjustment ect so good to get a flush fit with worn or old boots.
Buy the cheapest one, you will be happy with either. This is of course all assuming that you are the right skier type for a 15/16 din binding. Deadbolt is 5-15, and STH16 is 9-16.
tyrolia's race bindings are pretty different then the mojo/peak(deadbolts are rebranded) series in a few major ways, and the sth are not the same driver toe and are not all metal like race stock 916s/920s
that of course does not mean both are not amazing bindings, if its between the 2, i'd get the sth16s, ive yet to have an issue with my 2 pairs, and I really like the way salomon bindings feel secure
