Last year, we did this thing in math where our teacher bet all of us 1$ that there were 2 kids in a room of 30 with the same birthday. Apparently the odds are in your favor in this situation. Well, today is my birthday, and seeing that NS has about 30,000 members, there should be 2,000 people with today as their birthday, right? Who else has this birthday?

yeah those odds seem a little off. plus although there are 38000+ members, i would say no more than 10000 are active (by that i mean visiting this site on a regular or consistant basis, not neccessarily posting). and that number is probably ridiculously high, so you definetely arent gonna find 2000 people with your birthday.

that's a famous math problem. if i remember correctly once there are 23 people in the room, the chance of two having the same birthday is over 50%. i don't feel like calculating it now. 364/365 * 363/364 * .....

theres a big difference between you having the same birthday as someone else, and any 2 people having the same birthday....

but the math does work out, i think in a group of 50 people the odds are close to 90% that 2 people will be the same.

the proof is true, I've done it out myself, and it works. it's crazy, but it works.

here is a simplified proof.

Assume people are selected at random, and that their birthdays are
uniformly and independently distributed over the 365 days of the year
excluding Feb. 29.

Think instead about the probability, among n people, that none of them
share a birthday. For a set of one person, the odds that he/she shares
a birthday with no one else in the set is 1. Adding a 2nd person, the
person can have 364 of 365 possible birthdays. Adding the 3rd, he/she
can have any of 363 b'days, etc. So the desired expression for the odds
that no one shares a b'day is:

(365*364*...*(365-n+1)/365^n, and subtract that from 1 to get the
odds that two people share a birthday.

For n=22, this gives a probability of .476, and n=23 gives .507.

Yea melvs but ppl do share birthdays and we are born at random. There is no way in a room of 30 it is likey that 2 ppl have a b day that day. That would only account for 15 days! I still dont beleive it

Well maybe that's because you were probably concieved around labor day, and I'm assuming a lot of peopel fuck on labor day because it's the end of the summer? mines july 18th. i was concieved on my parents' 10 year wedding aniv./my dads birthday. and I also have the same birthday as hunter s. thompson (my favorite author) he is exactly 50 years older than me

the term \'fuck you\'actually came from \'pluck yew\' it was from when the english was fightin the french and the french would cut off the englishes middle finger because they used it to pluck the yew which was a bow and arrow....so they would show their middle fingers to the french
