Specific Crowbar Frame Dyeing Question

ok first of all:
1. I searched and couldn't find anything specific.
2. Crowbar cult is pretty dead, or i would post there.

Now, what i am trying to do is dye my carbon fiber crowbar frame to a matte black. I am worried about this, because i had a pair of spy soldiers that i tried to dye all black, and when they were in the boiling water the heat melted the adhesive on the face foam part, and it fell off. I didn't think it was that big of a deal, until i tried to put it back on. I tried may different times to glue it back on, but all were unsuccessful. ALSO, after a little while the dye would rub off of the goggle, and would get black dye everywhere. Eventually i just threw the goggles away, because they were a mess. I DO NOT WANT TO WASTE A CROWBAR FRAME LIKE THIS!!!

So, my question is this...Are these consequences only specific to soldiers? Can somebody who has dyed a crowbar frame let me know if everything went smoothly?

I finished dyeing my metallic gray frame black and ended up getting a metallic black. But the foam is fine and still attached to the plastic.

As far as I know Oakley's goggles are better for dying in three ways, your foam doesn't fall off, your frame doesn't loss it's shape and once the dye has dried it wont leave a mess on your face on the hill. While other companies have these problems Oakley, as far as I know and have tried, doesn't.

i dont think carbon fiber will dye matte. it might dye shiny black.

really? But would it end up being in between jet black and matte, just shiny?

dont sand a frame and dye it. it looks terrible unless your a carpenter and can sand it perfectly with no imperfections.

if the frame has a gloss shine to it now it will keep that shine if u dye it. somehow it dyes the underlayer and leaves the top shiny layer. its oakley magic, but its cool.

The carbon is screened on.  The dye will not penetrate and it will most likely look exactly the same.  You need a pair of matte white as a starter.  I dyed mine a DEEP purple and it came out awesome.  Dont worry about the foam, it will be fine.  Be sure to rinse it well though, or you'll end up with a purple ring around your face the first day you wear them on the hill.

idk about not dying. i dyed my shiny text riggers. text stayed black and everything else yellow. i think it will still look like carbon print, just much much darker. could turn out like a blacked out checkerboard pattern.

so im still a tiny bit confused...did they still have that gloss shine on them after you were done?

yes. the gloss shine was not affected. its wierd. like the dye penetrates the plastic of the frame and dyes it, but doesnt affect the outerlayer.

i call it oakley dye magic.
