all i'm saying is that there plenty of people out there that aren't true pro's but they are better than some people who are pro..... schlopy and talkington for instance, they kill it harder than some

pro skiers and photographers sometimes are unfortunately the ones who can deep throat the best, cupping the balls is a sure in too.

yeah but is it really all marketability , like why don't some of these sick "ams" have sponsors and shit, they got the skills, and i really don't see any one skier as more marketable than the other

The way I look at, if skiing is your source of income, you are pro. If you need to get a job to support your skiing, you are not pro.

A "pro" is somebody who is on payroll. Ams generally get travel budget and comp incentives. Of course this various from company to company...

You'd be surprised at how many pro skiers work landscaping, construction, commercial fishing, etc. in order to live the life they live.

A pro could be concidered someone who has a film part with a major company or someone who is on a company's pro team.

well, that wouldn't make them pro than. as are as my logic goes.


In all honesty though, in my world, being a "pro" or not has no real significance. It's probably best not to worry about something with such a big grey area.

being a professional at something means you make more than 70 percent of your income off of that.

You can make money doing other things. Pro baseball players don't make money off of endorsements?

Professional Lawyers don't make investments in the stock market? etc.

I think the well-established riders like Jon, Simon, and Tanner don't have to work labor during the summer to make ends meet. They are doing fine as it is. Other than those guys, some pros have to work during the summer to pay for their heli time for film segments...

Pro means you get paid to ski, imo. that means companies you ride for give you money (travel budget, photo and film incentives, etc). most "ams" just get product and maybe some comp fees paid for...i think?

but orange name does not mean pro, hence all the photographers, filmers, and other industry insiders with orange names...

well the only two snowboarders that get paid to ride are rice and white lol, white rice. but there are plenty of other pros, i think pro is when you have legit sponsors, i.e. oakley, redbull, etc

if you get get paid to do something you are pro. Such as if you work at Mcdonalds, you are technically a pro burger flipper. So if you are getting paid to ski you are a pro skier.

you are trying to say that just because someone makes money from other sources they are not considered pro?

This is correct. If skiing is your sole source of income, then you're a professional skier. If you can triple cork and have won the X Games four times, but you wash dishes for a living, then you're still a professional dishwasher.
