at windells i talked with ashely battersby. she makes tons of sweatshirts. and she said that her sewing machine also cuts the seam as it stitches

all sergers/overlocks are supposed to cut the fabric if they don;t it's because the blade was removed or is dull. brother makes some good machines. i got mine for about 300 everything included, shipping, taxe, whatever, and it retails in canada for about 600 before taxe. i love that thing.

is that a type of sewing machine? im sorry i dont really know much about that. I just have a really old sewing machine that barely gets me by.

Yeah, that's a type of sewing machine. It makes the stitch that is probably holding together your t shirt. It's universal for all sergers to have a blade to cut off excess material, unless you remove it or bought it like that, in which case you got jipped.

Most serious craftspeople have a standard sewing machine and at least a 3-stitch serger as well so they can cover all stitch patterns.

Generally it is the best stitch to construct about 80% of a hoodie as it is pretty strong.

It's best however to have a 4-5 thread overlock if you don't want to have to use the straight stitch after on a regular sewing

Machine! 3 stitch overlocks only secure the seams but they're missing that last straight stitch to do the job

I didn't know 5 stitch ones existed, I thought 4 was the most. Yeah I was using my mom's serger and she only had a 3-stitch. Now that I moved out I gotta buy my own machines. Would the typical 5 stitch cost about $500?

hm depends. amazon might be your best bet, like i said i got my 4 thread there for 300 instead of 600, stuff is always cheaper in the states too. depends what you want too. industrial is def more expensive, but you can buy them used as well. you can try craigslist or kijiji for industrial machines. otherwise if you know of a fashion district, say where there's fabric wholesalers open to the public, there's often machine shops all around that sell new and used/refurbished machines. i have a brother 1034d and i paid 300 shipping + quebec taxes, so like 190 usd?
