Binding help!

one of the main differences between and park and say a powder bindings... is that the park ones usually have shock pads or absorbers so that the impact is softer. another thing is like with the Look Pivot and Rossignol FKS is that they release in more ways to save your knees. often time they're also a lot lighter

Unfortunately no. Rossi/Look both state that their bindings do not prevent knee injury better than other bindings on the market. What they do have is more "elastic" travel (about an inch) in their heel design which prevents a lot of unwanted pre-releasing. They are also heavier typically when compared to the same DIN binding from another company.

What mainly differs from an "all mountain" binding (let's use Salomon for example) the Z12 and the freeride/freestyle version, the STH 12, is the construction. Currently, both bindings use the same toe design (this will change for 10/11) and same DIN range. The real difference is the Z12 uses a non-reinforced heel design with a basic metal heel tray, where the STH 12 uses the stronger heel tray off of their race series of bindings. Basically, the freeride/freestyle versions are more durable but heavier than their all mountain counterparts. They are usually a race binding with a different paint job, the main exception is the Royal Family series of bindings from Marker which are a different design from their race series. These bindings are a bit lighter than the race versions, but arguably less durable too...

thank you for correcting me man, and ya with the weight thing i've always had Marker which were light as hell, but shitty, and my dad's skis he has the Salomon Z12, and they just seemed a lot lighter, but thanks man

Bindings are made to be one of more confusing products the ski industry puts out, when in reality they should be one of the easiest things to talk about.
