Re edits with already used footy need to stop being posted

I don't really think most kids really understand how to edit film, because it's a hell of a lot more than just re arranging clips to some random music that's already been used 10-15 times. It's fucking stupid to see kids taking already heavily edited footage and rearranging it to different music. That isn't going to help you with your editing... at all so why not ask for some b-footy or unused footy from NS users to make your own original content instead and save us the trouble of having to see these redundant edits being posted. OR just do what ever the fuck you want and don't post it here because we can't judge your editing from clips that aren't even the original footage...

Yeah, no one ever "edits" they use the same cuts and ive seen reedits where its basically the same edit with a different song, its insulting.

Exactly, people don't understand the work people like you, Duncan, and others really put into edits. It's not like footage released in edits is even close to the original film...

Actually this is very true. Most re-'edits' are simply rearrangements of the clips, usually in a worse/less-sensical order. I tend not to watch them when they're posted, because I've already seen the footy, and I'd rather watch said footage edited by a professional filmer, rather than a 14 year old child with iMovie and some time to kill.

Having said that, there have been some very good re-edits. The Shane/ CR montages were all very necessary, and Danny's re-edit of Dane's EDIAS seggy was top notch.

And I like eheath's song choice (gargle gargle). Beats the dark days of Weezy in every single edit.

The CR and Shane ones are in the top rated section, the Dane one I have no idea. And I agree with eheath on this one. Most re-edits suck, give no credit to the right people and use terribly overplayed/overused music.

I just thinks it BS because all of the timing, color correction etc was already done- its basically drag into imovie- cut into clips- put on scramble and add your song- plus its not your work- if you want to do it for your own practice in editing- thats fine- but dont post copyrighted footage up on a massive ski website

what do you think about music artists and this stuff then? any ski edit you'll see out there done without legit music rights locked down is essentially a re edit of that artists stuff. if they had a music video out for it even more so! did the editors make the music themselves? no, they just simply take the song through it down and put footage on top of it. some people need to get over the this thing. once something hits the web its essentially a free for all. instead of trying to fight this thing figure out a way to work with it so everyone wins. put footage up with your watermark on it, people can still use it and it will be obvious as hell who's it is then.

honestly, i really dont care if people re-edit stuff. Id rather have more content than less. If its a shitty re-edit i wont watch the next one they make.

It's so dumb, your not even practicing editing. All your doing is re-arranging clips and changing the song and maybe adding slow mo. I think it's pretty insulting the original shooter and editor.

Yeah i regret using that song, bunch people i was with told me to use it, i caved in and then hated it, since then i only edit to songs i like.

it'd be sick if these kids would offer to edit our footage for free, imho the most difficult part in editing is finding that 1 good shot out of the 100 crappy ones ....
^^so if you wanna brush up your editing skills, post a request for footage on here and i'm sure you'll be overwhelmed with offers + you'll get good karma for making edits for other ppl ....
