i'm going to disagree with you. i'm not a certified lifeguard and I've pulled 5 people from the water over the course of my lifetime. It's not about being a certified life guard, it's about being comfortable in the water and knowing how to react in an emergency situation.
And the victim of the original drowning can't pull you down if you're behind them. :)
This. When you get trained on being a lifeguard you get trained on how to properly save someone and not let them just latch onto you and drag you down with them
It's one of those things where we always say, "take a class" and people never do. Water Safety courses are important at all ages. And knowing how to swim is a critical life skill.
My buoyancy was extremely fucked up. I was talking to a certified swimming instructor that has been teaching for like 20 years. She told me she had a student that his point where he floated was like 4 feet underwater. I just never floated above the water like everybody else/
Probably isn't right now as much, gained some weight, grew a bit, but I've just gotten so used to being afraid.
