i actually dont really have a super sloid idea, but i have noticed that since i was younger, the number of ppl i know that go to church is diminishing. it seems to me like 2 things may be happening...1) they are becoming wise to all of the bullshit incorperated w/ religion (priests having sex w/ little kids, ect) and are saying, fuck that kinda shit, or 2) they are doing what seems more suitable, they are taking organized religion, and flushing it down the drain. they do their own thing at home, maybe w/. their families. they still pray, they still acknowledge (sp) god, but they do it in their own way. im kinda like that, ive talked to alot of ppl, and i have come to this idea, yes, a higher power would make sense and does, but all of the stories reguarding this power a full of holes and contradictions w/ modern life. ask a (not to use a degradeing name for em, but) bible thumper about evolution, and they say 'have faith in god' or something like that. so i guess my summarization of it is, there are lots of unanswered questions, but the answer that was presented to us is full of lots of bullshit and questions itself. and it cant hurt to acknowledge god, can it? so i say that organized religion is horse shit, but a higher power, and choosing to recognize that power, isnt.

I don't hate on Paul Prins because he's Christian... I hate on Paul Prins because he's an idiot. Saying that we should respect Paul for what he's done for the Midwest is like saying we should respect Jonny Moseley for what he's done for skiing... except worse.

Its people like RS4LIFE that dont piss me off, even though he could probably hate any kind of religion he doesnt try to rub it in other belivers faces and I respect anyone who has consideration for what people belive in. Also the amount of people who participate in church has been on rise for a long time (contrary to what that asshole above said)I think it was sometime around the early 90's that around 1 billion people all of the world were a type of Catholic, so that says a lot about the religion, if it was retarded then abviously nobody would bother with it. And the thing above priests molesting little kids doesnt affect my opinion on church because those assholes will pay, or the church will get a substitute.

i have never met paul prins but i respect his decision. i have done missionary work and it is a very rewarding experience. but just because i choose religion over skiing doesn't make me a 'fag'. i still love skiing and i will love skiing till the day i die, but when that day comes, i won't be able to ski any more and thats why god is a part of my life. i think paul also understands this fact. the statements i made before about people being idiots was a bit harsh and a bit outlandish, however i don't think a man should be ripped apart on this forum simply because he chose another path in his life. i am sure paul still has a great passion for skiing and will continue to ski throughout his life, but he has decided to invest his time on other endevours. if the statement that paul thinks he revolutionized skiing in the midwest and we should thank him is true, i htink that is very egotistical of him. however since he is choosing to a life of religion, i highly doubt he said that. but i dunno bout that one

also, it is true that there is many problems with the catholic church (molestation, embezzlement, etc) but i agree that you don't need to go to church to believe in a higher power. church is for accountability, a place where you can meet peers who can help you on your path with god and a place to hear about the stories of jesus's time to relate to and hopefully shed light onto your own problems. however, you don't need to go to church to be a good christian. god is everywhere, and spending time with him each day to make yourself right with him is all you need. sorry if this sounds real sermon-y but i thought it was needed to be said.

Woodencrate, has got the goods, I didn't get a chance to preach to ya'll, but thats what I believe. I don't go to church alot because I am skiing every sunday and all the time. However I still communicate with God, and can still have a meaning relationship with him. And NO we do not hate unbelievers, It says in the bible from God that we should love all people,(race, color, religion, community status,etc). We are supposed to love all, we as in 'Believers' will take you in and treat you as one of our own, how do you think I accepted christ in my life? Was it possibly from a Christian who came up to me and antagonized me because I didn't believe in the Lord? No! It was not, it was a caring group of people who treated me as their friend, and over time I truely saw how right, and true the story of Christ is. That is why I accepted the Lord into my life and will wear my faith on the skis the Lord has given me. So again, everyone please stop taking offense to ever little detail,respect others thoughts and opinion's and go along your way without demorilizing someone else. Build others up, instead of acting as a Demolition Crew!

allright, here's my short two cents.

I don't go to church anymore, but my parents go every week. I still think I hold just as high standards of myself as they do, but I just don't go to a place with 300 others to sit for hours on a sunday and listen to whoever about whatever. I ski.

church is a place to find people that hold your values, traditions, beliefs, etc. you can have all the friends in the world from whatever religion race so on and so forth, but when it comes down to it, the people that you connect with the most (most of the time), are the people that have the same belief structure that you do. again, not all the time, but most of the time. then you have people that just want to bash on anything, and that's pretty much their religion. they bash other religions. oh well.

the full release...

The time has come for me to make a formal announcement of my intentions. I, Paul Prins, am here by stepping down with my position at Midwest Skier. The website may be updated for next season, however I am now off the staff, and will not actively pursue event coverage/promotion/production.

The Midwest Skier Open has been postponed until further notice; any attempt to hold this event will result in legal action.

The website will now be maintained completely by the users/supporters of Midwest Skier. A section will be added allowing you to make donations, all website costs must be covered by donations. All print work and logos will be made public domain, allowing users to create/print/distribute the promotional material/s.

Paul Prins had this to say.

“I’ve had a blast and learned a ton throughout the years with Midwest Skier, the videos and events. From the bottom of my heart I thanks those of you who have stood by my side and supported me.

“Over the next few years I will be doing international mission work, my university studies, and pursuing the will God has for me. The need and desire I had towards skiing has diminished and it is time for me to move on and pursue lifelong and career building objectives with my true passions; God, photography, writing, serving, and production.

“Again I want to say thank you to those of you who shared in my vision for the scene in the Midwest. One can only hope that in time it shall come true.�

I want to thank those of you for your support, I also want to thank hunter for starting a conversation praising Christ on this forum. I’m very much so looking forward to doing mission work in France this summer. It will be a true blessing.

Don’t discredit the church though, we are called to be in fellowship with each other, if that is being part of a church or another group of believers, that is important. I’ve tried time and time again to do it on my own and now that I have a solid group of brothers and sisters around me my walk has improved ten fold.

I will post some apologetics stuff later to help you understand how little the bible has changed since it was written and to confirm large portions of the old testament.

nope, it can be hard to get spiritual conversations started and he did a really good job. Though I'm pretty sure he didn't mean to do that, alas God works in mysterious ways and sometimes through people who don't even realize it.

Paul Prins, i know the reason why i hate you and hope you fail at everything you do in life would be because you always acted like you were better than everyone who you were around and acted like evryone else was dirt and they should bow down to you, by doing this you were being a huge asshole to those people by acting that way, as well as making outrageous claims like you could make your digital footage to look like 16mm quality, bullshit.

I'm sorry you guys feel I treated you that way, as it was never my intention. As for me personally I should clarify a couple things in this thread, I'm not catholic, I'm very Protestant. Also the reason I'm going isn't because of some guilt trip, rather because i've been commanded to go.

kami, if you dont mind me asking, why is it that all you guys hate prins so much? ill admit i have never met him, but it seems odd to me that two people at similar places in the newschool scene would hate on eachother. im not judging, i just dont think i understand what is really going on. you dont have to respond if you dont want to, but i have just been noticing this the past few days here and on mws.

Just a couple thoughts -

-1080, if youre going to believe in something but not really be dedicated to it, why even bother? I say get off the fence.

-Its interesting to me that a forum of skiers contains so many people who dont believe in God (or at least some higher power). I dont see how you can stand on top of a mountain (I.E. the top of the north pole gate at a-basin, or other similar places) look around you, and say there is no God. I didnt believe in God for a long time, and honestly, thats what did it for me.

P.S. Who had to bring mormonism into this? It was just a talk about religion in general, then someone has to go ripping on mormons. At least if youre going to talk about them, know your facts, not what you hear from people who have no clue.

i got no beef with god folk, but when they cram it down my throat and think that their faith makes them a better person than i am, thats just crap. I did plenty of time in the catholic education system and the main thing that i took from it is that if you like god, youre better than someone who doesnt. the whole piety thing doesnt really work into any of the god types i met

So... do you believe in, say, Julius Caesar, or King Alfred, or Charlemagne? Or your great great grandfather? Not exactly easy to 'prove' their existence either, aside from the records. I don't want to start an argument about it, I just see this as an odd perspective to have.

faith is one of the cornerstones of the life we live. can you see air? can you see the wind? no, but you accept that it is there. why? yes partly due to science but mostly because you believe it is there. and thats faith. like JD_May said, how can you truly believe that people like charlemagne, caesar, or even your own great great grandfather exists? is it the fact that documents exist as proof of their existance? well then, by your standards god and jesus should also exist. maybe is it that there are artifacts that prove that they exist? well in that case, jesus should also exist. this just shows that faith is a strong thing to believe in and shouldn't be taken lightly, as should god.

wrong man. wrong. even jd will say that its faith i bet. now if this all has been made fact, then its news to me. but since it hasnt, ill just keep on doing what i do. i dont know if there is heaven or hell, if there is/was jesus, if there is god. i try to be a good person and help people when i can. i dont really think that reading a bible and praying is going to do me any good, although i have been through the bible a couple times. im not saying there is no god, or heaven and hell, im just saying how can humans say there is or isnt?

Everyone puts their faith in something, you can't avoid it. To say you put faith in nothing is a hollow statement because you are merely declaring your faith in yourself. People put their faith in science, themselves, God, and anything else out there. There are just as many holes in science, if not more, then anything else, you just take it by faith that in time they will be answered.

Not to mention how many times science has been wrong... World flat? What would happen with the splitting of atoms? Heck even Einstein’s theory of relativity was off and correct about 15 years ago by Hawkins, and was accepted as such common knowledge. Where as the more archeological digs that occur the more accurate the bible becomes. They’ve found a land bridge where Moses led the slaves from Egypt with wheels from Egyptian chariots embedded in the mud, they’ve found cities that were once thought to be mythological, kings mentioned in the bible appear mentioned on several secular steles from around Mesopotamia. The church has been wrong before, but I challenge you to find a scientific study disproving the bible.

The bottom line is where your faith rests because we all have it to give out. If it is in science, work (faith that work will get you all you want), nature, or God. It is up to you and no one else. The worst thing in life is to believe in nothing, I’d just encourage you to look into everything before you make your decision.

i do believe in god but the idea of a 'god' or higher form was the result of people being unable to explain the everyday events that went on around them. Look at the romans, they has a god for pretty much everything. They didnt know how the sun rose and fell everyday, so a god was assigned and he 'moved' it across. it seems has time has moved on and we have started to fiqure out how these events occur, the idea of God is being passed over. Sure we know how the sun and the solar system work, so no need for a god to explain it. Matter of fact though, we have explained scientifically a lot of thinsg that has previously been said to have been controled by a god, but there are still the few mystries in life that are still unexplained and that is one of the main reason for people beleiveing in the idea of a god. Question like 'how did he get here' and 'where exactly is the universe' are some of these questions. Also, one thing that is odd is that people are using the fact that just because a billion people believe a certian thing is true that is has to be true just becasue a large number of people thing it so....i have had enough typing for now

Historically Reliable New Testament?

the famous scientest Pascal challenges us to seek out God (called Pascals Wager) and says that there are three kinds of people: those who have sought God and found him, those who are seeking and have not yet found, and those who neither seek nor find. The first are reasonable and happy, the second are reasonable and unhappy, the third are both unreasonable and unhappy. If the Wager stimulates us at least to seek, then it will at least stimulate us to be reasonable. And if the promise Jesus makes is true, all who seek will find (Mt 7:7-8), and thus will be happy.
