Hey guys I'm thinking about trying to host a charity rail jam at my school (University of Wyoming) this coming season since there is nothing like that in Wyoming, unless you drive eight hours to Jackson of course. The only problem is, I have pretty much no idea of how one would go about building a functional rail jam setup or even running a competition of that sort at all. Of course this is just an idea and I haven't even talked to our local mountain about hosting it yet but any ideas or answers you guys could come up with would be great. For the charity I'm thinking Youth Aids or something like that, if you guys have any good suggestions for other charities that benefit people in the skiing/snowboarding (not that Youth Aids couldn't I guess) world instead that would be awesome. Now onto the tomfoolery...
1.) What is a good number of features to have in the competition? Should it only be rails and boxes or should it include jumps/jibs/whatever else?
2.) When building the rail area what kind of slope do you want it on? What are the proper degrees for takeoff/landings?
3.) How difficult is it to get sponsors from within the industry to be a part of tiny backwater events in Wyoming?
4.) How would I go about getting judges that could effectively judge the riders and what would the criteria be?
5.) Is it better to buy features from professional companies or try to build them on your own?
If there is anything else I need to know about hosting an event like this please let me know so I can weigh the pros and cons on trying to pull this off. I know the local mountain has a few boxes and rails but I'm not sure exactly what because they never have a crew to actually build a park so they are always sitting on the side of the runs. I know for sure they have a jenky ass flat down box and a 15-20ft rail, as well as a couple other things that I can't remember specifically, that usually make their way onto the run sometime mid season. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated!
