you just have to use a private tracker like Demonoid. I was caught downloading the most recent James Bond movie and my Internet provider (Rogers) was sent an e-mail saying that ____ IP address was downloading movies and then they looked in their files saw the address linked to my IP address and sent me a warning in the mail saying if I'm ever caught again they will stop providing me with internet, attached to their warning was a letter from the movie company that did the most recent James Bond movie. It was pretty fucking scary to say the least, I thought they were going to stop providing me with internet and my dad woulda been hella pissed.

limewire is essentially a torrent website and a torrent program in one. think like utorrent and TPB combined

then why is "torrenting" said to be safer virus wise than limewire, when there the same thing

Basically the way it works is when you are downloading a torrented file, you are connected to several peers who are sharing the pieces of the file. In order to connect to the peers, you have to share your IP address. Sometimes an organization like the RIAA will join on a download to get your IP address, at which point they can use the information to send a complaint to your internet service provider. Your ISP will then usually send you a message saying to stop illegally downloading media or they will drop you as a customer and provide your information to the authorities.
Is it likely to happen. No.
But if you're really worried you can easily use proxies or IP blockers to maximize your privacy.

Or use a third party server which would cost like 5 bucks a month but there is no chance that you can ever possibly be caught

with using a torrent site and program, you can assure you are getting a good torrent with no viruses. you know the source. with limewire, it just searches randomly, giving you a mix of viruses and the actual torrent you're looking for.

Ive seen this happen before and was gonna post it.
The highest risk files for getting fucked are definitely blockbuster films, if you stick with albums you're fine

this is false.
In Limewire, when you search for a file, each search result is the file on ONE person's computer. that means when you double-click it, you are downloading that file from one computer. It's a direct link. This makes it much more dangerous as it is extremely easy to get a virus or worm this way.
Torrents are much safer. You never get the whole thing from one person. You get thousands of bits and pieces from hundreds of different people. This makes it much more difficult to pick up a virus or a worm. It also increases download time by a lot, since if one person goes offline, there are plenty other of people to fill his place.
Legality: Both are illegal. Plain and simple. Chances of you getting arrested, almost zero unless you've downloaded hundreds of thousands of files.
Chances of you getting a letter from your ISP saying this company informed them of your actions blah blah blah = higher but still slim.
Even if you do get a letter, nothing will happen. a big time company isn't gonna waste their time and money going after you so i wouldn't worry.
I got such a letter from NBC several months ago. nbd.
Every torrent client has a built in IP encryption. enable that. If you want added assurance, get PeerGuardian.

My friend once got a letter telling him he had been caught and to stop, all he did was get a program to hide his Ip after and everythings fine
