Wellll Jossi has a switch dub under his belt now, Rolland and Dorey have dub lincoln or whatever it is both ways, so it's gonna be super intense I think. Not to forget Bertoni with 12s both ways...

They should really start making the pipes a lot longer.  4 or 5 hits doesn't really tire the riders out that much.  In skateboarding they have to go for a minute or more.  By the end they are a sweaty tired mess.  At the end of a ski or snowboard pipe run they are breathing hard but not totally spent.  It would give more room to at a few more style hits too.  Get your three dubs in then do some steezed out shit.  If skiing pipe does end up in the olympics they will have to have a straight air in there too.  That means riders doing only one hit that is a style trick(besides the straight air), that isn't a dub.  Most likely a 10 or 12 that is nicely grabbed.  Pipe riding needs to involve 7 or 8 hits, or more, to really display a wide variety of skills.  Still, the level it has gotten to blows my mind.  The guys on the top are truly amazing to watch.  The next X games is gonna be unreal.

If Half-Pipe Skiing gets into the Olympics, Tanner will probably get back to competitive skiing.

Getting halfpipe in the Olympics has been something that Tanner has dreamed about.

I would be careful making predictions on what Tanner may or may not do in the next 3.5 years.

Personally, I would not be at all surprised to see him come back. He is someone who definitely deserves to be a part of halfpipe's Olympic debut in 2014, and without question he has the talent, the drive, and the mental strength to do it.

Yes, it is a requirement in snowboarding, but it's not FIS or the Olympics that created that requirement. That has been a part of snowboarding forever, remember it's been used in the past at XGames, Grand Prix, etc. (The snowboarders came up with it years ago because they didn't want the whole pipe run to be about spinning to win, and they wanted something in the run that could only be critiqued on style, without a technical component.)

Anyways, it has never been considered or discussed for ski halfpipe, and the FIS events that have happened (World Cups, World Champs, etc.) have never implemented it. So rest assured, there will be no straight/standard air requirement for ski HP in 2014.

There is still cause for concern about the judging, to be sure. Mainly with regards to who the judges are. Hopefully we will be able to get our judging crews from the pro side, in there for Sochi when the time comes.

Longer pipe? Not such a bad idea, everyone is getting such a huge bag of tricks these days.

That makes a lot of sense to me about the straight air requirement not mattering to skiing.  You can fit in another dope trick.
But, it is the one hit though that can make or break a snowboard run sometimes.  It would be really sick to see a style hit requirement in skiing.  7 or under maybe?  Still, the straight air takes out the tech part of the judgment and gives it that style only aspect.  In a sport that is getting more and more tech, we still need to have some measure of unique style and not just the super tricks.  If there was a hit that could be only counted for style maybe? See where i'm going with this?  And not to say that all the hard stuff being thrown is without style.
You guys have been doing a great job judging and running events for a long time.  I really hope that the judging panel will be filled with the right knowledgeable people for 2014.  I just don't want to see this one important aspect of our sport swept under the mat in exchange for a full run of super tech tricks.
