Hey, I know this is super late notice, but anyone been there? Im going tomorrow for 2 weeks and all I've heard is that its super chill and that they hate white people. Im just tryin to figure out what there is to do. Let me know fam!
hate white people? wtf.
i used to work with this awesome couple from HI. they worked with me at keystone. they sailed their boat up from the island, had all these pics and shit. it was crazy cause ive never heard of anyone personally sailing that long, made me jealous and want to try it.
i dont think they hate white people, they hate people who dont respect them.
Kauai was my favorite of all the islands. Its a super chill place. Theres a 4wheeler tour you can take that goes through a mountain on a plantation. Its where they filmed the opening of Jurassic Park. Definitely try that, I'll see if I can find the name of the tour company if you want.
It's sick my cousins live there, really nice surfing. You should go to waimea and go on the boat/snorklinh tour up the coast and you might see my cousin that works at one of those tours and it's an awesome tour
Yeah when i rented a car in Maui they said never leave anything valuable in your car and always keep it unlocked because your windows might be smashed. They also said to put beads or something on your mirror or dash or something to make it look kinda like a local car i think.
Went there in April and spent a week on the Napali Coast. A MUST!! It's usually rainy for the first 6 miles then it dries out. It's AMAZING. You usually have to buy a permit for $20 a night, many get away without it. At the end of the trail at Kalalau beach there's a small community who manage to sneak in living out there. They'll have community bonfires, pot lucks, etc. But the craze of helicopter tours kind of get annoying when you're sitting on this empty beach or at the base of a huge waterfall by yourself then here comes this chopper.
But if I had the $400 I'd do a heli ride too.
Enjoy the food! Find the awesome noodle shop in Lahui!!!
The lighthouse in Kilawea is neat. If you're in Kilawea there is a local coffee shop that is great to stop off at.
Overall, stay on the West side of the island. Less tourists.
I went to Kauai and it was pretty sick. It is super laid back, does not feel like a tourist destination which in many ways is why it is so appealing. There are a lot of places you want to visit like Wayamaei (SP) Canyon. Also there is a lot of surfing, snorkeling, ATVing etc. I personally just sat around for a week enjoying the scenery but that was just me. You will have a blast for sure.
kauai is pretty sweet, i wish i would have shelled out the dough for a heli ride when i was there. if you don't have enough for that i would at least try to get on a boat tour of the napali coast, maybe work some snorkeling in there with it for a good afternoon. if i remember right the beaches are half decent there, not as sandy as oahu but not 100% volcanic rock bullshit like some of the other islands. should be a good time, lots of nature stuff to see on kauai.
rent a car and drive up to the top of the waimea canyon,,
i wakeboarded on the lihue river if you are into that,,
the islands main road is like an hour and a half all around soo basically thats how you get to all of the prime beaches, usually on the north side,,
all in all,, it is more of a tropical forest, unsettled island than a beach resort,,
i stayed at the grand hyatt and really enjoyed it..
but get one of those books that shows you all of the top tourist spots/beaches... i wouldnt of made it without it
p.s there are a lot of roosters..... everywhere
interesting fact, jurassic park was filmed here and their is a huge missile base that is like impossible to tour
OH I FORGOT ONE THING,
go whale watching, i know it sounds boring as shit, but if you saw a huge ass whale jumping into the air like 100 feet beside you, you would understand... i dont know if it is in season though.
Theres some real nice hiking around Waimea Canyon and the Na'Poli coast. Hopefully you've got a camera if you hike out on some of the points along the coast, its beautiful. Hanalei Bay is pretty fun as well. If you're on the right side of the island, boar/pig hunting can be pretty crazy if you're down for that. If you're a golfer check out Princeville. Kayaking along the coast is pretty nice too. Of the islands I've spent time at, Kauai is by far the most beautiful, have a great time.
Kauai is my least favorite island but they are all amazing. On Kauai when your there try and do the movie tour and they take you to all these sick location where famous film scenes were shot. A lot of Jurassic park Scenes.
you dont understand. you just read that and youre thinking like "huh, must be a chicken farm or some shit" WRONG MOTHERFUCKER.
as soon as you step off the plane/boat, you will immediately notice that the ground is moving. "holy shit!! earthquake!"
no.
not an earthquake, you are merely looking at a sea of chickens. a fucking sea. there are more chickens on the island of kuai than you may be able to handle. your tiny and insignificant mind has no fucking way to comprehend the number of chickens on kuai. there is no chance in hell you can prepare yourself for this.
Like I said, this.
Also fisherman's cove (it's a beach on the south) has a dope cliff jumping spot too.
Swells are in the winter, but the surf there is always fun.
