just bought a mbp and need some opinions of an external to get. any good or bad experiences with one brand over another? thanks! (try to stay under $100)

I have used WD before(internal and external) and have never had a problem. And $100 for a 1.5Tb, you can't go wrong.

ive had 3 WD drive fail on me in the course of 2 years, yet ive been rocking this one lacie for 2 years and not a single issue yet(link is not the exact same as mine, mine has firewire 800/400, but other then that its the same)

i got a 500gb one on amazon for like 30 bucks and its been fine.

i believe mine is made by toshiba or somethin

all external hard drives with moving internals fail,

I've had bad experience with lacie, WD, maxtor, HP, they have all shit the bed at one point or another.


Buy from costco for the lifetime return policy as you will be bringing it back in 6 months to 3 years.
Buy two at once, use one as the back up as you will be losing all your data in 6 months to 3 years.

What are you using it for? Because it makes a difference if you are thinking of backups, just extra files, etc.
