When will skiing peak?

There is going to be a point in skiing when there is nothing more that can be done. A lot of pro's weren't stoked on triples. When do you think skiing will peak? I'm thinking end of 2012 season.

Unfortunately I think that probably 2013 skiers will no longer be able to 1 up eachother.

you have a valid point and i think it will in like 2020 when there are multiple triples in slopestyle and 2 pretzel 4 is no big deal... but at that point style will be king and i think the technical tricks will take the backseat and it will all be for fun and the sport will die down... unfortunatly =/

i think it will never truly stop getting better but it will definetly hit a point where it slows down similar to how skating vert has slowed down.  Tony's run from a long time ago would still do well in a comp today

Well 2 pretz 4 really isn't that big of a deal, it's a hard as fuck trick and I can't do it, but everyone(pro wise) pretty much is at the 4 pretz 6 level now I think.

peak in the sense that we won't go any bigger, prob around 2016-17ish in my opinion, however skiers will always be trying to one-up each other in style, and creativity through inventing new tricks.

well i guess there is only so far this wonderful sport can go, and i think its pretty close to being at its peak, im gona go with 2012 aswell, there is only so far humans can push them self, thats why i think there are so many people getting killed (RIP), everyone is pushing it so dam hard and its being taken to far, so it is defs close to its peak!

I dont think ever. People will find a new way to ski. No one would have thought of throwing double flips and landing backwards into powder 50 years ago, even 10 years ago? Anyways, there will be new ideas and progression will continue, maybe just not progression in the park...

Nothign can truly peak, it might slow its progression, but it wont peak. As either technology advances or we are able to better understand things, it will change.

Lets look at swimming, a sport that has been around much longer then free style skiing, mark spitz was supposed to be what many considered to be the best swimmer ever, but michael phelps came along and started destroying records. Things wont stop progressing, they might slow down, but they will never stop.

yea but x games is a comp so all pros do tricks they kno that they can land good. not trying to do tricks that they arnt comfterble(?)  with.

But true for slope and pipe though and I guess the reason for it is because style is (supposedly) the main focus in every run. It's really hard to do a new trick and add style to it when you've known it for only a short while or especially if trying it for the very first time.

For decades skiing's progression was on the skinny ski trajectory; then Bode Miller picked up a pair of beginner parabolic training skis, won a race, and changed the game.

For years, powder skiing was a helluva workout (in some ways it still is). Then Shane and the spatula showed up.

I could go on about ski technology alone. Plastic shell boots, automatic-release bindings (DIN system), helmets. Then there are techniques and methods of skiing. Austrian school, Norwegian school, PSIA, and so on.

Progression trajectories only occurs in-between revolutions, on one linear path. Game changers start a whole new progression.

So at some point, yes, Newschool skiing will reach an apex. This will occur right about at the moment where progressing on the current trajectory of the sport takes more effort than finding a new method or technology.

I believe that the sport of skiing will never really peak. However, this Newschool movement  will inevitably lose popularity when the sport simply can't progress any farther. that just means we have to enjoy as it lasts and have as much fun as possible.

i dont think skiing will ever peak, it is not in the genetics of humans to ever just accept not being able to improve further, a select few riders in every generation will always drive the rest to improve, in 20 years who knows what kind of crazy shit will be going down, but im pretty sure there will be some far more advanced tricks being thrown.

I think in a few years the tc crew will be the best around. Because their style of skiing is creativity and that will never stop, whereas jumps and such will eventually stop. Unless they make big enough jumps for quads...
