Sony VX Used in a Ski Flick?

My curiosity has gotten to me. All summer I've watched skate montage, after skate montage filmed beautifully with a Sony VX either 1000, 2000, 2100 and an MK1 Death Lens, and it made me think, I know NS has been anti- VX since it's non-HD for a while but has a ski flick ever been filmed with a VX? And before you hate, VX's are amazing.

VX cams suck. Even before HD became a standard, they were garbage due to their cheap housing, poor layout, and only being able to shoot 60i (wtf).

PBP used a VX2000 for select shots for Zach D in WAR and Jon in Ski Porn.

I know VX's aren't amazing by any means, but they're good for skating because every skater wants one and uses one so they're like generic.

Level 1 shot with them. I think Bogart was partially shot with one. At the time it was between the VX's and GL's. There weren't many alternatives like now.

VX's are bomb, and portray filming art in many skate/ snowboard videos. HD is just as shitty, because their are so many shitty edits with kids who think they can film, I'd take the best VX skate film over the best HD ski film anyday. VX is true street, and it doesn't need to be HD, its about the tricks and the angles, and the heart of the labour of everything entailed in owning/filming with a VX.

uh no, it looks like shit, has no good attributes, is highly overused in skateboarding, And I've never seen a VX edit where somebody actually does something more than just point the camera(with the always shitty baby death fisheye) at the skater and hit record.

I'd rather watch the worse HD Ski edit than the best VX edit.

wasnt this filmed on a vx? I really like the look of this just cause it doesnt look like another cookie cutter t2i + tokina video and actually has some personality to it. it wouldn't look good if everyone was filming like this but its a nice change.

There may have been some vx footy in those yoke edits, but I'm fairly certain that MOST of the crappy looking shots are from a camera that recorded straight to VHS tape

Fuck the haters I love vx edits. I feel that using non-HD cams is more of a statement than just using it because its "OG". It's simply a statement by the skate community that a good edit doesn't require a RED and a glidecam - anyone can make a good edit as long as the tricks are hammer. Not to mention that fisheye shots are the shit.

Inb4 all of you rip me a second asshole for saying that.

I agree with the VX supporters. It's the grandfather of all Digicams...

Yeah, it looks crappy and old-tech, but that's part of the charm of it. The whole point of using a VX is to go about something in a yester-year fashion. If you are able to come up with something awesome with a VX, then you should be able to get something awesome out of just about anything HD...

Ultimately, I think the VX can be super fun to shoot with. Brings you back to your roots... It's like shooting polariods or 110 film. That camera just brings back so much 1990's "MTV still plays Music" kinda nostalgia.

yeah, you can hate on the 1:1 transfer ratio, and the 60i and the silver colour and whatever else.. but it's a camera that's still being used by people 18 years after it came out. That's fucking cool no matter what you say... the thing still fetches 1000$ in good condition with a death lens - which is hilarious as fuck.

I should also add... Hood Crew put out a couple edits with a vx2100 this spring. Should be on their ns channel.
