basically I got 30k and I am going to college next year at UBC, Queens or Utah

If I get a truck what should I get (needs to have 4x4)

the new sti are sedans again, not sure when they are going to start being sold but you should definitley look into that.

get a cheapish truck and a decent snowmobile. and save the rest. I'm sure there will be times later on that you will need the extra money

Just my opinion. i think the new sti's look like shit. Plus they won't be 30G. i think...So get a truck like meh dad haz. 2006 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sports package.(4x4) thing is fucking amazing never had any problems with it the things around 200 000 for milage.

90 thousand miles on our 2003 HO six spd cummins, just intake and exhaust and i get 20-22 mpg on highway, and its a 4 dr long bed. not bad considering i get 13 mpg on the highway in my 99 durango with the gas 5.9, haha

def sti, trucks are way expensive unless you get a v6 slow as fuck smaller sized truck, id go for an 09 wrx(non sti) sick mobile and a trailer/hitch.  stis are sick but usually not needed considering how close 09s were to each other.(wrx v sti) only plus to a sti is 6speed and the ability to shift between 50/50 awd and 80/20 i think it is putting most of the power to the rear. something thats badass but also not that needed if you really just want 4/awd...

This. Seriously. Adding a hitch to an STI would just look retarded and probably require modifying the bumper. Then the ass would drag so much your trailer would scrape like fuck on any bump in the road. And if it's a snowmobile you are going to be taking it out during or after a storm to get to the trailheads. This means you will be on burly roads that will either land you high centered on snow, or thrown off the road into a ditch.

If you want a snowmobile, get something that actually had the idea of carrying or towing in mind when the engineers designed it.

Yeah I have driven both the sti and wrx and the I love the 6speed and the dccd (or whatever that is) plus the suspension upgrades make the car wayy better and the extra hp is nothing to complain about

He mentioned the TRD Sports package which is worthless compared to the TRD Off Road package. Although I would personally stay far away from the Gen 2 Tacomas (2005+) as they are having transmission issues with both the 6 speed manuals and the automatics.

meh, probably not. if you go to UBC, you can easily get away with towing by car. You could even tow it with a 4 cyl accord. Zones where towing is fine:
Seagrams, Tricone; Brandywine; Rutherford, Cougar; Millers-- that's enough to keep you stoked for a lifetime.

I wouldn't get an STI at all for snow. They are meant for roads... I'd get something with a bit more ground clearance for sure.

that said. truck + snowmobile is probs the best thing ever. Get a few years old toyota truck... you know, the ones that go for days, and which you could repair by hitting the engine a few times with the broadside of a sledgehammer, get a towhitch, and you're set.

maybe im being dumb, i don't know a ton about towing, but...

what's wrong with towing a sled with a subaru? obviously towing a boat or something would require a truck but with something as like as a sled....

an sti has super stiff suspension, so its not gonna push the back end down too much. also, aren't snowmobiles, when on trailers, generally pretty centered over the trailers wheels? which would mean it would hardly push down on the hitch at all...

and lastly, a subaru will handle snow as well as, if not better than, a truck. unless you are talking about 2 ft + on the road, there is no reason a truck will be able to get to a trailhead better than a subaru and besides, if theres that much snow on the road, why not just park farther down and ride the sled up that?
