NOW

-No zoom. dificult to set settings, not in 1080p to start with
-no memory card included
-IMovie and Windows Movie Maker cant export in HD, so more advanced software is required ( i bought Final Cut Express)
-Many parts of the ameras case (like the top) are fragile, so dont force anything. ur doin it wrong if it breaks

yeah most cameras don't come with a card. not an expensive purchase anyway...

set it to 1080 yourself. gives you some reason to read up on the camera before you just start shooting anyway.

There are so many stores out there that sell kits that come with a memory card. When I bought my HD Hero it came with the helmet mounts, 8gb memory card, and handle bar mount all for under $275.

ok, the discovery channel bought like 10 of them to film shark bites... im sure they bought Gopros because they are the shit and nothing else does anything like them.
- if its small, its fragile
- just buy a fucking card you pussy
- no zoom cuz its wide, thats what its for
- HD.... if you dont have the software... you cant use ANY HD camera not just the GoPro

stop bitching, they are the shit for the application that they were made for.

Unlike every one else bashing the thread i would say this shit pretanes to at least 50% of kids on here buying a camera....

ok, you guys dont get it.

this fucking camera (gopro) is the BEST for what it is designed to do. a helmet cam.
people like the HD, the 60fps and its size and are using it as a normal camera, because its a good helmet cam. now you guys are rippin on it because it does not do what a 3k camera can do. its a 1/10th of the price. for 300 bucks it does 60fps, 1080p, 5mp photos, its small, mounts anywhere. and you can ski with it in ur pocket and not worry about it, unlike a 3k camera.

Cool, thanks for looking at the GoPro site for us.

Its fine if you want to use the go pro as a "normal" camera - but here's some downsides: no audio, no screen, huge fisheye, all auto controls, and blah blah blah blah. For 300 bucks, yeah, its sick. Hell, I own one. But when people like me see threads like this and mindless recommendations for GoPros in every fucking camera thread, its pretty understandable that someone would get a little pissed about it.

The GoPro is NOT a "real" camera in that no thought goes into any of the shots it takes. It is not, face it. It is a toy, something to film your friends in decent quality and something you can drop and not have to worry about mommy yelling at you. You point it at something and film it - very few people creatively use their GoPros to their advantages. The only two I can think of are Traveling Circus and AbeK - the rest just followcam.

So don't tell me I don't get it, because I definitely fucking get it. You can use a GoPro for whatever you want, but don't try and compare it to a camera that takes thoughtful, composed, moving, structured shots.

You should never be asking if you should get a go pro or some other "real camera." Either you want the gopro for it's specific advantages/intended use(helmet cam)or you want to really film so you compare the obvious features (1080p, 60p, so on....) to the "real cameras." It's just a fun little toy in a plastic case. My friends have a couple, they are a whole lotta fun, and they certainly have their advantages. The fact remains, it's not comparable to any other cameras(except helmet cams) so please stop doing that. When GoPro makes a little camera that is shock proof, water proof, and has more controls than on/off, record, and maybe something to change the recording mode, then it's worthy of being mentioned in "what camera threads." Until then, please stop doing so. I'd rather use a VX2100 full time instead of one of the gopros.

whoa someone read my post wrong.
go pros are great for what they are intended to do. filming from your head, ski, outside of your car, etc and not beautifully composed shots.
any other filming... drop the go pro.

i almost never use my GoPro @ 1080p, and i can switch between modes / resolutions as fast as anyone else can on his regular camera, just takes some practice getting it right ....

only really downside of the gopro is the whitebalance and lighting, it's all awesome if you have a bluebird day or shoot with bright white light, but go indoor or on a cloudy/misty day and you get probs ....

I'd say calling the gopro a toy is a little harsh, although not too far off. I like to refer to it as a tool, and I think it's a tool that for the price is certainly worth adding to your bag. The gopro is the best you'll get for the price for a POV camera and is always a great camera to throw in those little places for those throwaway shots where you would never want to put your actual camera.

in conclusion, gopro =/= camera, gopro = tool.
